... By the by. My Jaguar engine has cost me £170 complete with all ancillaries delivered to the workshop. With a 90 day warrantee, after I've started it up. That is what I mean by cheap <cough> <choke> How much? I mean, how little? For a dressed engine, delivered. That's amazing. I mean that's buy-one-and-stick-it-in-the-back-of-the-garage-for-now cheap.

Hi there. Yep, that's right £170.00 all in.
This was a very important part of the conversion for me. Harping back to my ..... No im not using a Lexus engine bit. Another reason for rejecting that and quite a few other engines was apart from there insuitability, was cost. A decent Lexus of the right model, is now upwards of around £1200.
A friend of mine wants to Jaguar his MX-5, well, he wants me to do it and the chap that supplied me with my engine, a Jaguar and Mercedes only breaker, assures me that is the cost to everyone, so good news.
I might call it the MAGUA.
Regards. Rich.

Hi there. Yes a little bit.
The "mule" car is now stripped. This took a week longer than anticipated. I entrusted it to a "youngster". I shall say no more about that.
So now it's getting back to my friends Engineering shop at the end of this week. Just spoken to him this afternoon. Then we shall have a trial fit of the V6 and really see what the problems will be for us.
I've done a lot more thinking and looking into the Jaguar inlet manifold situation. This really is a ball ache. I think that I have a solution to the inlet manifold problem by using Ford parts and a dedicated designed item to interface them to the Jaguar parts I'm having grave doubts as to possibility of using the "staged" Jaguar inlet manifold. I really would like to use it but it's just so darn huge. I will know more next week for sure.
If I could get away with a slight bulge in the bonnet in addition to what is already there then I think that would be acceptable. But I don't want to go all 1970's on it.
That's about it for now. Not much I know, but at least it's moving forwards.
Im trying to put a package together here which is the "flip-side" of the splendid Rocketeer package. A correctly Engineerd package non the less, but a very cheap one, in comparison.
Regards. Rich.

Hi there. Sorry. I'm in Bexhill on Sea. Thruxton is because of my motorcycle. Bought new in 1972 ..... But you are welcome to come and see the MX-5 when there is something to see. Regards. Rich.

Hi all. So an update. Although I have talked about using the Jaguar inlet manifold this will require a bonnet bulge. I'm still not comfortable with that. So I have now worked out how to make the Ford Duratec V6 2.5 litre inlet manifold work on the Jaguar 3.0 litre. This manifold is cheap, mine was £25.00, off the shelf and a genuine part. The throttle body will be replaced with a much larger cable operated one and the inlet throat blended to accept it. The new T/B is less than £50.00 new on e-bay. The inlet manifold is a very shallow unit that should fit under the bonnet. A simple upgrade would then be to use the Ford ST200 inlet manifold. I shall however build with the cheap one and collate the power figures once done on the RR. This is said manifold on an AJ-V6 3.0 litre Im hoping to work out a way to use the standard MX-5 1.8 flywheel interfaced to the Jaguar engine and a suitably uprated clutch pack to handle the 240Ft/Lbs of torque. This is looking 50/50 at the moment. But would keep the costs down. I should have a resolution on this some time next week. Engine mounts. Im looking at moving some ancillaries and thus freeing up some threaded bosses on the sides of the engine. This would enable me to move the engine mounts forwards and free up an area to drop the exhaust manifolds down and through. Im hoping to lightly modify and use the manifolds below Again they are an e-bay item in S/S and only cost £180.00. Thats about it for today. Regards. Rich.

Thruxton, maybe I should call myself "Viper" then? Interesting project. Keep 'em coming. BTW if you're not aware of her have you come across Claire of crapengineering on N*tz? Your kind of hands-on engineer and has been known the fabricate sub-frames for V6's (could save a lot of time/aggro?). Cheers, Pewe. Mk1 s/c NA Velocette Viper Laverda 3CL

Hello Pewe. Thanks for having a read through. Yes I know of Crapengineeering and her products.
Next to correct Engineering, the ethos of this package is to keep it affordable. I am going to see if modifying the standard subframe is possible. If this is so then the cost of that will be a very small percentage of a "custom" built one.
More will be know next week.
Regards. Rich.

This is great work. I wish I could spanner half as well as you appear to be able to.
Whilst I admire your dedication to cheapness, I would warn against cheap ebay exhausts as a false economy though!
