Sooooo, I stumbled upon these the other day while looking for phone chargers for the car, and I thought they looked pretty nifty and also cheap enough to take a risk on!
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-in-1-Digital-LED-USB-Car-Charger-Voltmeter-Thermometer-Car-Battery-Monitor/222966866137
I have to say, I'm quite impressed with the quality for the price - doesn't feel too shoddy at all, seems to work and give voltage readouts that change with engine load/work as you'd expect, and the temperature gauge seems roughly about right!
All in all I think it was a good buy, and way cheaper than fitting a proper voltmeter gauge!

I looked at those but don't they have to be installed in place of your existing cigarette lighter?
I thought that was a bit too much work lol

Got to love the item description:
Apply to all mobile phone brands, tablet PC, car recorder, electronic dog, GPS and other electronic equipment, to eliminate the critical moment of power embarrassment.

At last, a means of reducing the embarrassment I might feel if my electronic dog has a critical moment of power. How thoughtful.

Yes you have to remove the lighter socket, dead easy, took 10 mins or less.

Fits really neatly, ditch the plastic cover, I think that is intended for nautical applications....
