Yup, it’s a pig I did mine when I had the engine out but manifold off is the easiest way! I also removed the manifold brace/bracket to make it easier to change the oil filter, just left it off- it’s unnecessary! Have you swapped the sender for the uprated unit which will actually give a bit of needle movement rather than an on/off switch

I already have the 'proper' pressure sender and gauge as the car is pre '93. I just realised over the period of 18 months or so the reading was behaving differently so that prompted me to test the sender with multimeter - the lack of resistance strongly suggest it's buggered. I've sourced another sender that gives the correct resistance when seeing no pressure.

I did it. The father in law came over with a socket that fit the top of the sender and off it came. The new (to me) sender fitted straight in.
Interestingly the old sender did give a resistance reading once disconnected. Although it was quite a bit off what the sources suggest they are meant to read. This goes some way to explaining why I did see some pressure readings but lower than what you might expect. With the new sender the pressure is much more healthy.
