I'm jumping on this bandwagon since my ipod popped and I'm currently running cds. I've bought a nexus 7 today and will have it soon, so going shopping for thr rest.
I like the idea in that video of having a slimline headunit with Bluetooth to run as a phone, but can that be done via the nexus and get proper access to my phones phone book?
I'm also thinking that I'll need more space for my tunes than a USB drive will alow, anyone using a hard drive or even a solid state drive? The install could be fixed and the drive remove able for updates indoors.
I'm probably going to annoy everyone with my questions... Sorry in advance!

Not too sure about the phone / tablet sync - I'll have a bit of a look around and see if I can find anything. Would you really need a bigger USB drive than 64GB? I'd def like more space than 64gb, my NAS at home has about 1900 albums on it and if I can spend a little extra and have them all in the car then why not!

Ah, gotcha. In that case, I'd look at an SSD. It'll draw less power than a spinny hard drive. You'll also probably need a USB hub that you can run power to, so there's not drain on the tablet (i.e. you don't want the Nexus 7 to try and also power a hard drive .

100% Powered USB hub. I'd also go for an SSD as they uses less power, and I wouldn't want to use a spinny disc HDD in a bumpy car. That HD is not going to last long!
If you have a NAS, maybe consider simply streaming all the content to your car? Probably cheaper to buy a data sim with data than a huge SSD

I think that's just a 6 usb car charger. You need one that either has otg built in, or one that is an actual hub.

I now have everything required to plug the tablet into the car: I have Tuesday off work, so I'll spend the day working out how I want to mount it.

I was just playing with my setup this weekend and managed to get the tablet stuck in a rebooting loop, fixed it and subsequently installed the desired rom with "Wugfresh Nexus root toolkit"

Right, console done: What do you use for automating I.e. How do you get apps to start on boot up?

Mine just opens whatever was loaded when the ignition was turned off, but the bluetooth connection seems to get messed up and it never reconnects automatically
