Replaced the cheap JVC stereo that came with the car to an Android car entertainment box. Not a perfect fit - will have to 3D print a new surround but generally it seems awesome.

Answered 2 questions:
Q1) If you just want to remove the rear subframe, can you leave the diff attached to the PPF & driveshaft and just tilt the powertrain down far enough to lift the subframe off the diff?
Answer: No. Bugger it.
Q2) When I jacked the car up on the diff one time last year there was an almighty bang and something lurched and scared the prarrie canoe out of me. What was that?
Answer: The upper spacer is missing from where the diff fits into the PPF. Must have been missed out when some previous owner fitted the diff. Thanks. So the PPF can drop about an inch relative to the diff, if it suddenly decides to.

Decided the castellated nuts were sacrificial. The ball joints are cross drilled twice at right angles for split pins so if you saw off a castellation at 90° to the pin, hey presto, there's another hole under it and you can drill straight through the stuck pin. PS Battery impact gun is the absolute business for taking the castellated nuts off if a breaker bar is no use because the hub isn't fixed to the car. Just the best thing ever.

Wasted my time trying to find a description or part number for my car's missing diff-to-PPF spacer. Suddenly realised it doesn't have a part number because it's not "a part"; it is part of the PPF, along with those captive nuts on top which pin the PPF and alloy block together. D'oh. Nicely illustrated here by Autolink: www.autolinkmx5.com/differential-open-mazda-mx-5-18-mk1-411-late-used-5565-p.asp One diff photo shows the alloy spacer in place above the 2 bolt holes, the other shows it missing.

Spoke to our mech workshop guy yesterday. Had he a bit of scaffold pole I could measure up? "Ah, no good. Just under 40mm internal diameter. Oh, well." "What's it for?" "I need to draw out a bunch of rubber suspension bushes; needs a bit of tube maybe 42mm internal and at least 75mm long. Thought scaff tube might do." Came in this morning and found this on my bench. 42mm internal.

Did things in reverse. Went to the local Cars & Coffee and met a few other 5 owners. Got back home and decided to tidy it up a bit! Done a lot of small jobs, but it has made a noticeable difference to the car. Happy days

Ordered lots of little bits, which hopefully will make the car much neater, mostly missing trim.

Finally replaced the faulty OEM Bose unit in my Mk3. With another identical unit. Cheap fix. At least I can now play CDs again.

… for a ' diferent' projekt Rich. Well, I was gonna say. My first thought was a five isn't the natural home for a 1960s flat six. My second thought is you must have gone out of your way to get one of those in the UK so either "projekt diferent" requires that specific engine or you literally tripped over it and thought "What could I do with that?". Highly intrigued.

My second thought is you must have gone out of your way to get one of those in the UK so either "projekt diferent" requires that specific engine or you literally tripped over it and thought "What could I do with that?". Highly intrigued. mrs. bought a Zaz 966 (google is your friend!) was looking for something interesting & diferent to use in it the Corvair 2.7L is both interesting & diferent and one came up on ebay with the added bonus of a vw gearbox adaptor-plate & flywheel fitted as the Zaz is rwd & rear engined (based on 1940's German leavings from their posponed 'world-tour' / european vacation and has some remarkable mecanical / suspension similarities to the infamous ' Kubelwagen' ) we are looking at using a vw t1 ( the so-called beetle) transaxle... was either that or a subaroooooo flat4 personally, I believe the Corvair 6 cylinder will sound perfect for the little Zaz anyway, back to the Eunos..... front discs & pads arrived today 9ordered yesterday) so will have a crack at them shortly

<Googles> <finds photo of Vladimir Putin standing next to his 1972 model, either lovingly restored or the rust just didn't dare touch his car>
Okay, that's different.
