I've done 50 miles each way to work and back in my 5 for 2 years now, man up I hear you but short nose crank engine? neck-ache when raining unless £400+ seat? £1k+ wanting (not needing, of course lol) spending on suspension? 2000 miles of salt a month over winter? I'm not sure... lol I might look at a Puma - someone I know just bought one so I may have a ride/drive and see what they're like, and will ask about fuel consumption. I like the fact they are cheap but decent to drive, so I could get a tatty one and leave it in a side street and not stress about some chav keying it.

Take the standard seats out and mount directly to the floor (unless you already have?) and some meisters should be job done. Plus undersealing would bring the total to just over £1k when I bought mine it had 37k miles on the clock, it's now done 87k miles 2 years later, you get over the mileage and driving the 5 even on motorways is awe-sum

Don't buy a mid 2000's Audi/VW expecting it to be reliable. It will be a money pit. Exactly my point to her!! Sadly lost on her - seemingly cars should run on thin air, never need servicing and never need cleaning... Anyway, the underseal aspect is one of my concerns running the 5 over winter - I don't have ready access to a hose to wash the underside off at the end of each trip and I'd rather not leave salt eating away for a week between washes. Japanese would definitely seem to be the way to go, though, I agree. Looking at this and am thinking it could be a good bet - shame it's not the 2.0 but might be a bit more economical. www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/toyota/celica/toyota-celica-mk4-st--------------------1997/6224154 You should get this celica. Looks minter than a fishermans friend in those small photos and is cool as canoe!!

I reckon it could be a plan - I do find the standard seats pretty comfy anyway, they just need to be lower, so I'll check out options! Do you have to bolt through the floorpan, though? I'm not keen on adding extra rust ingress points, it has enough already! I bet the old owners of your car would be crying at all the extra miles you've added that they avoided doing lol

It does look in good nick, I agree Steering on them isn't wonderful, though, somewhat numb, but I believe they are pretty much super-reliable, so I am tempted!

I sold old my old mk2.5 seats to a guy and recently seen he's posted them up for sale if you want his contact details? That way if you screw it up you can buy another pair

I need to get back to Skuzzle to do my suspension so seat mounts could be something else for the list... lol Thanks for the offer on the mk2.5 seats I do quite like the mk1 seats TBH, I found kinki's leather mk2 versions to be a bit slidey when I tried them!
