Oh mayt your car is looking hottttt.
I want to Switzerland for a "cheap" weekend trip. Flights were ridiculously cheap @ £76 for two people return to Basel. We did a mini Road trip to Interlaken, Engelberg, and a couple other cities before finishing off in Basel and coming back home.
Beautiful country, but holy prarrie canoe is it EXPENSIVE! We once payed 30CHF for 2 coffee's and 2 bowls of soup in a Service Station.
Shame you can't bring modified 5's into the country! I've seen a few IT Contracts there that tempted me, but I would like me car there! Looks like you're making progress on your car too though which is great.

It is stunningly beautiful here, but it is also anus clenchingly expensive.
Not being able to have my car here was a massive blow, but then again it is not working yet. Plan will be to take it back to the UK when it is sorted and come back for a few track days.
There are plenty of fast cars here (AMG, M, RS etc and almost zero modified cars because your are not allowed to do anything) but if you get caught speeding it can be very expensive. I have been fine three times so far, and hit flashed yesterday. Fortunately only 1 or 2 over the allowed limit so very small fines, but they go up quickly. So nobody speeds. Itis actually really boring driving here.

i finally got out to the car. AND... i figured out why water was pissing out of the back of the engine. I had pinched the thermostat in the housing and the coolant bypass ring. If i had just put it on properly when the engine was out of the car, it would have saved a lot of arsing about. and now i need to get some more gaskets delivered. which will be expensive and tie consuming. I think i have the wiring mostly sorted now though. Just need to tidy it all up in the engine bay. no interesting pics i'm afraid. One thing i did notice was some coolant sludge where the coolant had drained to and sat for 18 months... is this anything to worry about? I can't see any in the block, and i have flushed the pipe that runs back to the rad, and nothing came out of that either. (You can see the indentation in the gasket where i pinched the thermostat. idiot)

as you have time, I'd use sillycon to 'stick' / position the t/stat in place (on the reroute spacer) also, with gaskets, I make my own (cornflakes packet, the 'old' way ) and use a hammer / ballbearing to 'tap' through the cardboard over the housing Rich.

Well... My plan was to use some duct tape on the cover and reroute piece to keep it all in place while I bolt it up. But your plan works too.
I have some gasket paper, so I could make my own - but given its in a complete pain in the rear canoe place I wanted to use proper ones to reduce the risk of having to take it all out again.
Depending on how long they take I may make my own.

Just put it all back together, and it leaked. Even more than before, if that is even possible.
I am a twat, and had pinched the thermostat again.
So i took it apart, and did it again. Properly. And it is all fine now.
So I _think_ that is the last of the mechanical stuff to do to get it running. I need to do a bolt check on everything, and the brakes will need replacing before it is used in anger, but they will be fine for the time being.
On to more electrical things that I really struggle to understand. Yay.

I have done very little since my last update.
The temporary import that it was on ran out mid October. I had planned to take it back to the UK, and get it finished (either by me, or pay somebody else).
With all the covid prarrie canoe, I have managed to extend it by a year. So that means I have more time to get it done.
Almost all my time had been taken up this summer with our t3 (required quite a lot of Canoeing about) and then actually using it to see Switzerland.
We also got a puppy - not my idea - who has sucked up what remained time I have had. The little bastard just needs attention all the time.
So, in short - I have done bugger all. But this winter... I will do it. Just like I should have done it last winter. But I will do it this time. Honest...

I have spent a few hours trying to work out why I can't hear the fuel pump start up when I switch the ongoing in.
Thought it might be the immobiliser as I had made a bit of a meal of the wiring for that.
Then I thought it might be the way I had removed that and set it all up again.
Obviously the last thing I checked was the actual fuel pump. It's dead. I had a spare walboro that I bought second hand years ago. It looks in good shape, but didn't sound good. It has been sat in my garage for at least 6 years, and god knows how long before that
New one on order from bofi.
I think I have killed my battery as well. I stupidly left the ignition on and didn't disconnect the battery last time I was out there messing about. Got it on charge but that errored. Just trying it again.
Now in to trying to fix our bloody 3d printer that just stopped printing properly for some Canoeing reason.
So all going well here...

I hope you didn’t fry your coils when you left the ignition on...

I've got the stuff to do cops if it is knackered, just never got round to making them...
I've got weird prarrie canoe going on when connected up. I think I need to look at my earths as something is clicking.

May I recommend the deatchwerks pumps. They make less noise and flow the same or more than the walbros.

So... We are moving again.
Off to the US in the summer after 3 years here.
The big question is, what do I do with the car? I want to take it with me, but it is currently on a temporary import from the UK to here. No idea how the bloody hell i work out how to do that though.
I am hoping it will give me some encouragement to get it working.
