Can;t believe i haven;t posted anythign since october.
Went to another track day, at the same place, but a different circuit. They have two... This time it was Thunderbolt.
Had another instructor, which is actually very useful, Despite making me feel like a 4 year old. I am still not very good at reading tracks, and some of the lines and amount of full throttle he was making me do were terrifying, but fast.
The only problem was that the bonnet flew up on me. so that was fuc
ked. Then while the marshalls were trying to take it off, they cracked the corner of the windscreen, which was a bit annoying. I was completely off the track behind a barrier, so i could have been left alone, but they stopped the whole session.
Very embarassing.
It's difficult to tell from this photo, but you can see the reflections - it is like a big bowl.
The catches i was using while expensive, were a bit prarrie canoe. I actually had a set of aero catches to put on it, but ran out of time...
They let me carry on, which was good. But then we noticed some oil on the windscreen.
I have a couple of leaks, the turbo drain is a bit 'weepy' and so i assuemd it was that.
But then we noticed a big puff of oil every now and again coming form the little air filter i have put on the tube which woudl have gone to the intake befire it was turbod.
I have never got round to a catch can, and i think as i build boost, some of it is escaping via the PCV (which seemed to be ok when i did a quick test, but i didnt test it with the same loads that boost woudl be).
So i have a list of thngs to buy:
- Catch can setup
- New bonnet (and hinges)
- a new turbo drain
- i want to add a power steering cooler as well
- New windscreen
I've got all of them apart from the powersteering cooler and a windsceen (not looking forward to how much that will be).
Second hand prices are not what they once were. Just finding a standard bonnet was hard, and i paid $350 for a bonnet and another $200 in postage.
It arrived today and it was packaged better than brand new parts I've had before. Really good condition.
I toyed with a fibreglass one and maybe evern getting rid of the headlights as they no longer pop up... But in the end, just got a standard one.
I'm also planning on buying a ramp truck. But more on that another time.
Needless to say it is going to be more complicated that just buying an old transit or sprinter transporter, and involve considerably more cylinders...
I also tried out my new Racebox on the track. Was very easy to use... Here is a lap using it's data in racerender:
Turn the sound down... i got a cheap camera, and after pulling all the video off, i have bougt a new mic for it...
