Good work man, nice to see it being sorted properly!
That spit frame is a great idea too.

This is a lot harder than it looks... Been at it ages and it is no closer to fitting. Perhaps some cooling slots in the panels may help me on track...

I have been a busy boy over the last few weeks... Finished off welding the sills: Couldn't leave that crushed framerail like that. I have some rails to go over the top and they wouldn't fit with it like this. This is underside after frame rail fix, and with the rusty patched cleared and painted with rust converter - but before cleaning it all down. At this point, I built some rails that bolted onto the subframes and had 200mm castors on them. Put them back on the car, lowered it down, took it outside cleaned it with pressure washer, left it outside in the 1000 degree heat to dry, and then rolled it back in and put it back up on the spit. There was still a fair bit of prarrie canoe left on the underside, so i cleaned that all of by hand with degreaser. It was painful. I went round a sealed all the gaps i had dug out to fix the rust and to seam weld the suspension points, with some car body seam sealer Then i did all the rust stuff and cavity wax in the sills, and the coating underneath. Just waiting for a couple of more cans to arrive today as I went a bit mental in some areas. Next job is the body work... i have got one side reasonably smooth (the side that required a very big patch panel) and need to work ont he other one. Then need to decide on a colour. I may just stay with the original (to current shell) black. Or i really lie a flat grey, but that has been done to death. Whatever colour i choose, it is unlikely to be the best job in the world...

Amazing effort mate, this is going to be spotless when done. Wouldn't put yourself down about it not being "the best job in the world", it's going to be cleaner and more protected than 99% of the ones out there!

All the dirty underbody stuff is done now. I have welded up the aerial hole and filled all the dents on the two rear quarters. Need to smooth out the filler on the lower side of the sills as well. And clean up the engine bay - lots of overspray form the dinitrol stuff. The good news is that I can wheel out the S2 bumper that has been sitting in my garage loft uloved for some tiem now. It has had a hard life, so first step was to rub it down, find the cracks that have been repaired in the past and dremel them out where they have crakced again. Filled with p40 now and partially sanded down. This is a before shot: Then i swapped the boot lid for the original, and started to rub that down. I painted that previously and did a pretty prarrie canoety job. I think I will need to rub it right back to bare metal and fibreglass to do a decent job. I also have my shorty bumper that I fitted up years ago and adjusted the brackets to make it fit. I had painted that, and actually didn't do too bad a job of it, so just rubbed that over with some scotchbrite pad, went over with some primer, and a bit of a rub down and it will be ready for paint. This is the collection of parts getting ready. Next is the doors and bonnet off the current car, so that will put the car out of action. Also the hardtop that i bought recently is in a bad way. Needs some edges rebuilding, and i am not sure what somebody has done to try to paint it in the past, but the paintwork is himalayan...
