I have been busy getting the parts ready for a b it of painting. First thing was to get the boot lid off, and i replaced it with a std one for the time being. Now it is on, I actually quite like the plain boot lid. Not sure what I will do now. I have a shorty bumper as well - need to see it with both boot lids I think... I have stripped the hardtop down as well. I managed to get teh glass out without breking it as well, which was nice. A lot of work though... Not sure what the Canoe the last owner did to it... but there are some ridiculous gouges out of it: And the paint is shocking, it is coming off in big flakes: Plan is to put the S2 bumper i have onto it. Looks like this: Bit worried that the bottom edge of the bumper is going to look quite big in the grey. Was thinking about trying to make the bottom edge black - along the black line i have drawn on this: Lots more sanding still to do...

Wow, looks like someone used your hardtop as a sled!
That bumper is awesome, don't see many of those, will look great when it's done.

Don;t understand what they have done to it. Was originally BRG, and then it has been primered and painted black. But it had lots of dints in the BRG that they didn't seem to repair properly. and it looks like they use 15 grit sand paper on it. Or possibly a rasp... and the paint is really crumbly - and quite soft so it clogs up any sand paper really quickly.
Had the bumper in the garage for ages, waiting for me to pull my finger out. Has needed quite a lot of love, and worried that one trip onto the grass will rip of off and smash it into a million pieces... but will see. Going to paint the standard bumper too.

They're so quick to swap you could have a different front / rear bumper and boot lid combination for each day of the week š
Amazing work on this, a little envious of your dedication (and free time!).

Started work on it again. Sanding was taking way too long, so decided to get the nitromors out. Did a good job. Picked up a good tip of covering it in plastic, so it can't dry out easily. Means you can leave in on for longer. Have fixed all the cracks, and very roughly sanded before a light coat of primer so I can see it better. A lot more work required. I found that turning the car on its side gave me most of the space back in my garage... Hard to lurking in the background. I have completely stripped that down as it was in such a state. While all this has been going on, the back of our house has been ripped off ready for an extension too:

really glad i made the spit. has made life a lot easier... The stripping wasn't as bad as I thought actually. The fumes were the worst bit. But covering it in plastic was the best idea in the world. Saw it on Larry Kosilla's 911 rebuild: That meant it didn't dry out as quickly, and presumably stopped some of the fumes too... Took 3 goes to get through to the bottom, but it worked. Only doing it on the boot lid as that had 3 layers of respray on it, and i put way too much filler on when i put the duck tail on, so wanted to remove some of that and do ti better this time.

Oh my. Oh wow. Bought a compressor. Old 150ltr belt drive 3hp thing. It has changed my life. Also bought some old tools, two of which were old dynabrade da Sanders, and the guy threw in some discs as well. Tried one of them for about 20 seconds yesterday, and it is the best thing I have ever bought. After a few seconds the finish was like glass compared to what I was doing by hand.
