I thought this was a joke but it actually works! Got a MK2.5 with slightly 'yellowing' headlights which look a bit rubbish, anyway, a couple of minutes work polishing with toothpaste on the lights & hey presto! Bright & sparkly again. Blimey!!!

It does work well! Although I'm told that if you want it to last you need to coat them in clear lacquer afterwards otherwise they go yellow/cloudy again quite quickly

Brasso also works, but I wouldn't brush your teeth with it.

I've used toothpaste before, works like a charm. The best results I've had on plastic light covers was from an old, un-branded cutting compound. It took half the time to polish up & didn't leave any of the micro scratches / swirls. Have heard autosol is ok to use but never tried it myself on plastic, only glass to help get the road canoe off. As Meerkat says they will quickly go dull again unless you re-coat them with the anti-UV stuff.

I got one of those Fortron kits that an ex-workplace 'gifted' me as I left, but I haven't put it on yet. It comes with a clear coat to be put on after.
Ive heard the toothpaste does the job but you do need to clearcoat after.

Holy thread resurrection, batman! I've since used my Fortron kit. it was reasonable. It took a good while to get the job done and it didn't completely go as clear as new, but they were heavily clouded so I'm pleased with the results. If I had more product then I could have done more. The kit came with a UV sealant which rubs in with a supplied cloth and it seems to be holding out. If you're doing the toothpaste route I'd go for a UV protective lacquer that you can get at any halfrauds, but I would have thought a regular lacquer would work just as well.

Don't panic about bumping old threads
Maybe when they get to 10 years old...

Better to bump an old thread with loads of info in it than repeating it all and then having 20 pags of almost identical search results next time..
