Bit of progress, although as seems to be the case at the moment, it's just getting things out of the way so I can actually do some work on my track car! Been working on the Mk2 for a while, and it's got to the stage where I have taken everything out of it that I need ... so it's ready to go to a new home. The new owner has a slightly crazy plan, he's cutting the body off the chassis and intends to attach an adapted Mini Metro body onto it ... so he'll have a turbo RWD mini Metro. Not a 6r4 replica, standard scruffy body and interior ... Anyway, it's gone, so one less car to worry about and one more space on the drive. Next to go is the lifted 5 ... it's almost stripped now, hopefully it will be ready to go in the next couple of days. It also has an interesting new owner, although I've been sworn to secrecy in case the conversion doesn't work! All this means the 205 and track car can get some proper attention ... as soon as I've fixed the roof again, as it seems determined to leak in new and different ways / places each week! Russell

The lifted 5 went at the weekend as well ... sad to let it go really as I wanted to save it, but it really was too far gone for me, with quite a few badly bodged previous repairs. Almost nothing came off easily, which I guess just confirmed I'd made the right decision to strip it. Be interesting to see what happens to it ...🤣 So 2 cars gone in as many days ... how long before I feel the need to fill the gap? Russell

Quick check in the daylight and I've done pretty well ... sills are better than I thought, all solid! The car only needed a bit of work underneath ... so a couple of hours work and an MOT and I'm back on the road again! So what have I got? It's a 96 1.6 UK car, so 90bhp ... chosen as my son is approaching driving age and this 'might' have affordable insurance. It's also got a BRG hardtop, which I want for my track car ... and it's got a few more nice bits like TR Lane roll bar, Cobra bucket seat, decent wheels and some coilovers The bad bits ... it's definitely a 10 yard car, lots of scratches and lacquer peeling. It's been lowered too much, has too many stickers and the interior has been stripped of carpets and has a deep dish steering wheel. The bonnet needs tidying ... but I have a spare, the GV lip isn't to my taste but that's easily removed (any takers?!) I'll raise it up a bit, ditch the yellow stickers and that'sabout it. Nothing too bad, but enough to keep me busy for a bit while I'm saving up for parts for the track car and the 205 Russell

Had some spare time (who hasn't!), so got a few bits done on the car over the last week ... New seat fitted, never been a fan of the Cobra Monaco seats, so I removed that and fitted one of the Motordrive seats I'd bought for the 205. Seems to fit pretty well and it's a lot more comfortable than the Monaco Then I'd decided to ditch the Roll Bar ... nothing wrong with it, but I'll make one of my own bars for this car so will run the car without for a bit. It also gives me a chance to put some carpet back into this car ... it's not a track car, so no point making it even more noisy than usual! Then to today ... a good day and a bad day. I've been tackling all sorts of jobs but one of the niggly ones was to work out why the bonnet wouldn't close or open easily. I could see that the back brace to the bonnet latch mechanism was missing. Managed to find a replacement, but it wouldn't fit. Thought it might be off a different car, but on closer inspection the front lower frame was slightly bent back. Managed to straighten that and add the brace back in ... but the bonnet still wouldn't closecorcipen without serious pressure ... I lifted the car up and enlisted my son's help to sit in the driver seat, then got underneath to see if I could see what was happening when the bonnet release cable was pulled. Didn't need his help in the end ... once underneath, I spotted this ... Pants! Ok, so this car is not a keeper then! Was feeling rather annoyed with about a weeks wasted effort on a duff car, and spotted an ad on one of the FB pages ... so I'll shortly be the owner of a Rotrex supercharger kit! Every cloud and all that ... So I need to have a think, but damage like that isn't an easy fix ... and this 5 isn't a great one anyway so I'll probably use it for a short while and then break it once I've found a replacement. that image is not confidence inspiring I'd not considered how little the 'off-the-shelf' rollbars didn't protect another reason why I want a wider main-hoop (been looking at removing the seatbelt-towers to gain space ) Motordrive make good seats, another brand that I liked (& have experience of!) is Magnum although I dont know if they are still producing also, as to the chassis, if you were closer I could have assisted as I've a body-dozer leftover from when I had my garage..... What rotten luck, at least you found that out at this stage and not after lots more fiddling Agreed, not ideal but not the end of the world. I bought the car knowing there was enough parts to make it worth a go. I'll drive it for a bit, but in some ways maybe it's a good thing I concentrate on my track car rather than spend loads of time putting nice bits on this one Russell

If you can’t find a home for the rotrex, I could.... Thanks, but it has a home ... although being honest I'll sell it on again at some point as I'm weighing up my options but will do an engine swap once I've worked out which I think will suit me best! Russell
