Try to get some practice off the sprint startline. The left hander onto the circuit when taken at speed is a bit tricky with a camber change.

Im starting to loose enthusiasm for the HSA championship. The event turnout number of actual HSA competitors seems low, and mixing of classes dilutes the championship atmosphere, and the points scoring structure imho is pretty flawed. I know exactly what you mean with target time based championships....... Have a look at Classic Marques, it's a power to weight based formula with points scored based on a performance algorithm. It means that if a driver drives well they get good scores no matter if an MX5, E type, Porsche , TVR etc...... It can be a completely bog std car to a stripped out racer- the formula works. www.cmscc.co.uk/speed-challenge/2017-event-calendar/There's great banter in the paddock & support/advice available. It was my brother's first ever motorsport event at Gurston last weekend & he had a great time. If you need any more info drop me a pm.

Classic Marques has the same issue with competitors though or at least that is what I had heard from competitors, turn out is not always strong and at least with time based you know where you are throughout the day without cracking out the spreadsheet

Classic Marques has the same issue with competitors though or at least that is what I had heard from competitors, turn out is not always strong and at least with time based you know where you are throughout the day without cracking out the spreadsheet Classic Marques mostly have their own class at events, & there were 22 entries each day last weekend (a few got put in the wrong ones by accident). Although, sometimes it's an advantage to go to a quieter event......... Yep, it's a formulas based system so therefore the times do have to go into the spreadsheet. However, everyone has a pretty good idea of what time they need to achieve then have to try harder if someone puts in a blinder! So, back to Mr Apextwin's thread- Ive done a guestimate on the formula & you would've scored approx 24 points(max 25) both which would've put you in 5th handicap & as this is your 1st season, the lead in the novice championships & the lead in the MX5 Championships.

I think the long term plan is to get an A licence and gradually make the car / driver quicker and do all the mainland hills in the british championship!
Im loving the idea of eventually developing a fire breathing anti lagged 350bhp mod prod monster on 10inch slicks!

The Graham Hill sprint at Curborough didn't go entirely to plan. I beat the existing class record with a 65.71 but sadly that was in practice so it meant nothing! My timed runs were thwarted by a electrical gremlin that had been intermittently showing itself over the last few events in left hand bends. Initially we believed it to be a (widely documented on miataturbo.net) fuel pick up issue and before the event we changed the fuel sock and fuel filter. This didn't help, as the same issue was there again. Hillclimbing and sprinting is such a friendly sport, during the break between the afternoon timed runs 4 or 5 other competitors/ rivals lent a hand in going over the car trying to source what the intermittent issue was. Whist poking around the ECU in the footwell I got a small shock as something shorted! We insulated up the offending circuit board with a prime piece of bodging utilising a bit of cardboard! Cheers Sandy! Time for the final run. Justin Andrews set a rapid 63.69 on his first timed run in his Impreza. I was confident of being able to put in a 64 second run if the car behaved itself. As I came to the start line the clouds came in and it began raining, this was pretty frustrating as it removed any chance of being able to improve my time. I took a cautious run as I did not want to risk the car in greasy conditions. Some parts of the track were dry enough to really throw the car around and try and cause the stutter to happen again, I tried my best but couldn't get it to happen so maybe the intermittent hesitation is sorted! Fingers crossed! I plan on making a more permanent solution to this fix after the next few events. There were some great cars competing at the event. A personal favourite was this beautifully modified 240Z Next up is Gurston Down this coming weekend with the aim of getting into the 36s, followed by a Prescott double header the weekend after. Cant wait!

Rain, what rain, Pah we were a bit unlucky, 10 mins of rain then it was glorious. I'd sort that bodge sharpish, if the short was caused by vibration over time, you wouldn't want it rubbing through, sparks and cardboard, what could possibly go wrong

30 degree temps at Gurston for the 50th Anniversary celebration. Two long days of hillclimbing. You can't beat it! Day 1 Report. I managed to finish 2nd in class in a good field of 11 cars. There was a good mix of interesting machinery to compete against this weekend. Amongst the entries were a previous generation turbocharged Civic type R, a Evo 6, an immaculate Celica GT4, a Subaru impreza Sti and Simon Marsh, son of the late Tony Marsh (6x British hillclimb champion) in his Golf R. He is used to driving a 400+ bhp single seater and setting FTDs at Gurston meetings so I'm sure the golf felt like a bit of a change! The day ended with a solid P2 finish after yet another close battle against Shaun Fudges Impreza. For me the goal of the day was to break into the 36 second bracket. I couldn't manage it , finishing on a best of 37.26 just pipping Shauns 37.32. Simon Marsh wasn't far off in his Golf R, which was one of the fastest cars off the start all weekend, it pulled consistent 2.10 second 64ft times which is very quick, aided by a clever launch control system. Day 2 Report After practice it was clear it was going to be a close scrap for 2nd place in class. Nobody was going to get close to the mighty Evo of Steven Moore, but there was a 5 way dice for second. Myself v Shaun and Sarahs Impreza (both dipping into the 36s in practice) V Simon's Golf R V The rapidly improving Celica GT4. It was game on going into the timed runs. I really focussed before my first timed run and knew where I could make the time. I knew my theoretical best going into today was a 36.67. The air temps were very high and subsequently the turbo powered cars were feeling not quite as punchy on the steep run to the finish. Never the less I pulled out a new PB and a first ever 36 second run to record a 36.68! This was enough to gain another 2nd place in class. (my hands had just stopped shaking when I took this in the bottom paddock) Next up is Prescott next weekend for my debut event there. I feel my car will suit the venue well as its less of a power hill.
