It interesting, I have always found the Mk3 as a bit lacking in feeling of speed, but thats compared to the Lotus that came before ... and the Mini I run alongside.
Having said that ... it does feel like a rocketcar when I get out of Jasper after pootling around at 998 speeds for a week.

That's just sensation though, with your level of tune you will be as quick or quicker than an Elise, a diff ratio change will sort that sensation feeling for you though, just done mine and along with cams it is feeling pretty rapid even though I didn't hit 200bhp. I just happen to have the bits you need in my car at the mo, nudge, nudge, wink wink the 5spd 4.1 on the 6spd will go very well.

I feel like I make the wrong decision with my mk2, and I should have got the mk1... but if I had a budget to stretch to one I'd probably go mk3 too.
A brave call for someone jn your position, but completely understandable

No way is my MX5 as fast as my Elise except for maybe on longer straights. I wonder if the straight line advantage would be enough to make the Maz faster over a lap of coombe but havent gotten around to do a track day yet. Bits I need or bits Horne needs? The only bit I need is a big pile of cash in exchange for my Mazda, our time together has passed.

It will clearly depend on what Elise you had I guess there's obviously some very hot boosted ones, but on hills and sprints last year my experience was otherwise and I think I was 30bhp down on yours. The 5s refinement and size comparatively probably makes it feel slower than it is.

The 5s refinement and size comparatively probably makes it feel slower than it is. I had a base model S1. I realise that a lot of the difference is in the "feel" but I find it very hard to believe my MX5 is faster in all but long straight stretches where its gearing will make it easily quicker. The 0-60 is very similar (according to BBRs measurement, I only measured mine once with a VBox and got >7s which I believe is mostly down to my poor start and the fact I needed to grab 3rd to get the last couple mph) and the cornering speeds of an Elise will be tons better because they are getting on for 300kg lighter! I am going to go ahead and say, that you beating elises up hills is down to drivers not cars. Dont get me wrong, I really love my MX5 and for the compromise I made when selling the Elise it was perfect (I wanted a car that leaked less, but was still fun...) but the Elise was the quicker car I have no doubt.

Nick, I sold my Mk2.5 turbo 7 days ago and I find myself looking at replacements every couple of days and each time its a Mk3 so good luck with it and I look forward to seeing its progress. Maybe it could be made suitable for RoR2017 Ian
