Hey guys new here, i own a 1996 mk1 1.8 uk spec no abs or pas no air bags(we die like real men). Previously owned a 1.8 mk2 1998.
I am from Draycott in somerset and during the week i work in woking surry, i am a painter and body tech for Mclaren.
Mainly into japanese cars espeshialy mx5s
My current mx5 is the classic red lowered on coilovers, Bm8 8j wheels with nankang ns2 tyres, mazda speed upper strut brace,front splitter, raceland 4-2-1 tubular stainless manifold, decat pipe, colbolt stainless cat back, egr valve blanked off, magnecore ignition leads, custom made short ram intake with a cold air feed.
I have had a new mohair hood put on it by southwest roadsters. And when the weather improves i am having the rear sills done at a local restorers.
Future plans are ebc brake upgrade been thinking turbo groove disk and yellow or red stuff pads (need new front caliper)and braidedlines, ultra racing center brace amongst others,and the timing advance mod.
This year i have wanted to get on a few track days / also drift days and other events ? Any advice on parts and dos and donts and car prep also good places to start at track days ? My closest circuit i believe is castle combe

I know a guy who works there too, on the assembly line. Paul Sutherland.
Welcome, sounds like a good setup so far, there's a few "Action Days" at Coombe with cheap tracktime for 15 minute slots that quite a few people on here will be attending. There's also a few people who do "proper" full day OPL trackdays on here, myself included. My car is currently with Skuzzle being merged with my other car and once that's finished and I'm back from travelling with work all of April, then I hope to get booked in on a few to get back into the swing of things.
In terms of brakes, the EBC discs are a bit unnecessary - the standard discs are good and cheap. Pads wise, the EBC Yellows are good daily/track dual duty but can get a bit crumbly under aggressive use and near the end of life. If you want to go a bit higher spec there's Rodders pads (Roddison Motorsport), and then beyond that it's Carbon Lorraine, and Carbotech. I use Carbotech XP8s for dual duty as any higher compound from them needs more speed to get more heat in them.
Calipers in order are ---> 1.6 ---> 1.8 ---> MK2.5 Sports ---> Wilwoods from Freaky Parts.
Others may disagree with my pad opinion but that's from my experience. If your car is NA, can carry good speed through corners, and you're not tracking very regularly, I'd say 1.8 brakes are enough, with a view to upgrade in the future. Remember bigger brakes means bigger discs and pads which get more expensive, but then they also absorb less heat and cool quicker which means you can stay out for longer.
