Luckily have just seen that the 5Fest day requests an approved helmet to go on track, so I'll be needing one.
Any recommendations? I don't want to spend thr earth, but I appreciate what it does. Not that it'll save me in any way being in a car with no cage...

Are we allowed open face helmets at 5fest? Guy at the motorcycle shop said not to use motorcycle helmets in a car cause they are designed differently

My advice is if you are buying a helmet buy a MSA approved one, then you have it for affiliated comps if you ever need it, You might want to consider HANS ready as that may be soon coming in for ALL classes of MSA events. I bought a motorbike helmet which is now basically useless!! Oh and bear in mind my mate bought an open face helmet and was told he could not use that in speed events with the roof down, luckily Merlin swapped it for him
MSA yearbook:- SNELL SA2010 and 2015 - valid until 2023 FIA 8860 (2004 is invalid after 2020)

Bike helmets are ECE marked (I think) which is not approved for cars, thats not to say a bike helmet may not offer just as much protection as a car helmet, however the testing is different, hence the differing standards. Surprise, surprise MSA/FIA approved helmets are more expensive!!

I believe it's all about fire protection. As in you don't need it on a bike but you do in a car.

I use a relatively cheap bike helmet for trackdays and have never had it checked by the track day organiser. You marshal at the pit exit will usually check to see that you've got it done up, but that's it.
