Thinking about what France has just done in announcing that they will ban all petrol powered cars by 2040, I wonder if there will be any dispensation for classic cars, and if so what would qualify as a classic?
Assuming the UK introduces something similar, and If my MX5 even survives that long, it would be nice to know I'd still be able to drive it then. Otherwise I guess an electric conversion would be the next best option

I suspect that over time this type of legislation will include all sorts of exclusions - most of it will be aimed at large towns and cities, I think there will likely be special cases for rural areas for instance where people have to travel longer distances and there is sod all public transport, classic vehicles, Motorsport vehicles, etc will continue to run on petrol with certain conditions attached for many years. The big problem is the haulage industry - diesel powered trucks are the lifeline of our economy - what's going to happen to them?

I reckon we'll be pootling around in petrol cars for a good long while yet. Lots of things stay after they are "banned" you can still buy 4 star petrol for example.
