So here is you challenge....
How the heck do you remove the stainless steel kick plates on the sills of a 27 year old Mk1?
I can remove the screws and the surrounding trim, but can I break the bond of the glue? Nope! I have tried a heat gun, and its eased a corner, but worried I am on the verge of applying too much force and bending the plate. I am also worried that the heat gun will damage the Roadster insert on the plate.
Is there some magic Harry Potter spell that can break the bond???

I don't remember any glue on mine, just a tight push fit over the bottom of the door lip thing.

Mine had a strip of double sided foam round the edge That's maybe what it is, that stuff can be like a weld until you get it moving!

Have you tried something like a wall paper scraper and gently tapping it in with a hammer or mallet. Should break any seal beneath the plate.

Thanks for all the replies. Certainly something is under there glueing them down. I'll have another go this weekend. If all else fails I'll get hold of a second set of plates and massacre my originals.

AT LAST!!! Managed to get them off. Decided to be brave, but left the car out in the sun, and gradually eased up a corner before forcing in a wooden spatular. There was a line of bonded foam on the outside edge. Blimey this glue was stuck solid. I'm recommending my Gran uses this on her dentures. It has bent the outside edge, so having to 'persuade' it back into shape with a rubber mallet. At last I can now get a good look into the outside sill and in went the Dinitrol.
