Hey everyone. Just a quick hello / introduction. Just bought my first MX5 (from a member on here I believe) It was originally purchased to be my drift toy, but whilst the track car is at the menders it will fill that gap for now Its pretty well sorted already, obviously its got the power (print out shows 259bhp and that's apparently at the wheels! Didn't realise you could get that much from these engines!) its got a nice set of Nitron coilovers (although the rears need servicing as they're a bit spongey) Its got 1.8 brakes with some decent pads. ME221. Its been on a diet so no soft top, heaters, radio and power steering is gone. Load of other bits too but I won't list them all, but those are the headlines. Apart from a 5min test drive Donnington Park on Sunday will be my first drive, (hence wish me luck!) so really looking forward to that. The car is no show car, looks great in pictures but get up close and you can tell its a tool for a job, not for looking pretty. Even though I haven't even driven it the list of things I want to do is building up (although after Sunday this list could change) * bucket seats (currently has Lotus Elise seats, bolted direct to the floor, nice and low and light, but don't expect them to be that supportive) * 1.5 way diff (currently has a whining 3.9 torsen) * rear dampers serviced * suspension set up, aligned, corner weighted etc (think its been moved about quite a bit so suspect its out, again Sunday will help determine that!) * improve the steering lock (new hubs?) * electronic boost controller (its got a cheap, mechanical one right now) * the wink mod I have this vision of going into a big crowd pleasing power slide and winking to said crowd * if all goes well and I decide to keep it semi-long term, then I might look into tidying up the outside by getting it wrapped? Hope to catch up on track some time Attachments:

Welcome, nice pick-up! If you can hold a slide with no power steering long enough to flash and wink, I bow down to you lol I'm surprised you need more steering lock - mine can virtually turn in a standard single carriaqeway width of road!

Must admit the steering thing is a bit of a concern, as long as it still self centres it should be ok. As for the lock, I just assumed it would need it, probably need to give it a go before assuming it does by the sounds of it. Thanks for the heads up

I think the general consensus is it gets to a certain point then 'flops over' - getting it back past this point is difficult without the PAS setup, but I only ever use that much lock when parking or u-turning. You'd have to be about 90degrees sideways in a drift to need that much lock! lol

Yup, it’s his old car. He’s joined me in the murky world of Mini ownership.

Yeah Brians old car. He's been really great as even after a couple of weeks of ownership he's putting up with my constant queries! Track day went really well on Sunday. The car is a lot of fun. Having had Lotus's primarily, the last being a SC Exige, then my normal track car being a V-Storm (similar to an Atom with 3 seats but more power) I was concerned I wouldn't enjoy it, couldn't be more wrong! The car is very capable on track. And its got so much more potential. I'm pretty sure the alignment is out, the ride height needs sorting as it's sitting a lot lower at the front (probably why it fell a bit tail happy (but controllable!)) and the boost was spiking so I had it turned down to a constant 0.8 bar instead of the mapped 1.1 bar. (electric boost controller on my shopping list) Oh and then there was a leak between the turbo and downpipe, nuts kept coming loose but even when tightened it was letting gas through. Just needs a gasket in there. Still buzzing from the day, can't wait for the next outing.

Get the little issue sorted and let me know if your doing any days next year and I'll try and join you on the track in the soon to be Mega-Mini 🤞

Although come spring I'm hoping to have the Storm back so the little 5 will be used more for the drift side of things (unless I book a track day and the weather goes really sh!t, in that scenario I'll take the 5 instead. Really wet track days are not fun in exoskeleton cars :/ )
