I'm so glad I named this thread what I did... it's just so apt!
The good news is that the central locking was an easy fix. I'd left the OS door actuator disconnected knowing it was not working so card off, reconnect and refit, job done. The NS was connected but the actuator arm wasn't positioned correctly to move the lock properly so I reshaped it and refit and that's all good too. Lst job on the CDL is to connect to the hazards but I didn't on my last car and I doubt I'll be bothered with this one.
Yesterday lunchtime I jetwashed the bay with both wheel acid and then tfr and it's come up a charm, better than I thought it would actually, it looks like someone owns the car! After work it was up on a ramp and properly went over it with brake cleaner and an airline and get it clean and dry, then fired it up and went looking for leaks.

Got a small job done at the end of last week, just a tidyup. You moght have seen from previous pics that the top of the rad was held in by some proper scruffy looking home made brackets, or more likely not, but anyway they were doing nothing except for looking awful so I bought some very cheap brackets off of Wish and they have finally landed so... Shonky brackets off, and flapper wheel on a drill to take off the surface rust areas Then masking up other stuff and giving it a coat of silver hammerite smooth Then fitted new brackets (blue, because I am a tart) and new rubbers It's not a massive update, but it's a job that I've been meaning to do for a while now, it looked proper scruffy when opening the bonnet and now it's that little better. I need to get some rubber bushes for the rad pins, I'll probably just cut some silicone pipe to the right size and sleeve them. One more job done.

No no, that's good work and it looks much better. I really want to strip and redo my 'that kind of area' but i'd lose my cheeky japanese stickers and nooooooooooooooooo to that.

Haven't updated this in ages, but then I've not done a lot on it - monies are always allocated elsewhere at this time of year, especially when you have a 6 year old going on 13...
But I finally have heat coming out of the vents. There was a leak from the matrix out pipe which I think was causing a constant airlock. So replaced all the clamps for both matrix pipes, then found a smaller leak down by the side of the block so replaced the gasket, then found that the matrix was full of gunge so basically filled it with tfr through the vents, waited 5 mins and blasted it out with a jetwash, took 4 goes to get it clear.
While in it all I flushed out all the coolant system that I could get access to, refilled and bled, easier said than done as the rad is a mk2 one and not a mk1 one so the filler neck is lower than the top hose (another moment of genius from the previous gimp). So far it's working just fine, so next step later today will be to bung a bottle of steelseal in there to close off any other minor leaks and call that job jobbed.
Also found that the previous p**is-fingered owner thought that he'd protect the backs of the dials in the vents by stuffing rags in there, but putting them so far in they he blocked off the side vents too. Now the OS vent blows great, but the NS one barely blows at all. Is that normal?

Now the OS vent blows great, but the NS one barely blows at all. Is that normal? probably another hidden rag in there somewhere must say the heater in my car is more than efficient through all vents without noticeable bias, actually very hot on full meltdown setting! you'll get it sorted Rich.

Probably another rag in there, but I will take the gauges out of the heater vents and move them to below the headunit and get those vents back.
Car broke down on me new years eve, complete non start, turning but not firing. Found fuel pump not priming or running. Was a nightmare getting home from where I was, at 10pm on new years eve options are pretty limited. Took a guess at a fuel pump relay only because the symptoms were the same as last time it went, and found someone on an FB group selling one so a 60 mile round trip in the wifes car, then out to where I abandoned it the night before, plugged it in and it started first time.
This has been the year of automotive hell for me with this car, and it manages to squeeze in one last kick in the gooch from the car before the years out with hours to spare. Lets see what 2019 throws at me, hopefully a different car.

Just read this thread, got to say you've not had it easy! but good luck for 2019 there can't be that many parts of the car you haven't changed left to go wrong

I always keep a short length of wire (with male-spade connectors on both ends) as an emergancy bridge, can replace relays for the 'get-home' fix (although bridging a relayed connection means permanant feed untill wire removal so be carefull ) one of the old 'life-savers' & bodges learned form dodgy cars, rallying & bad life choices also, as to replacing the car, is it better the Devil you know? Rich.

I have a piece of wire in the car for this very thing, about 1.5m which was long enough to get from a power feed from under the dash to the fuel pump direct. It helped me confirm the fuel pump relay on new years eve and if I had an inline fuse I might have just limped it home on it. Duct tape is always kept in the car and I've needed it more than once.
The new car this year is because the stars are finally aligning - I have some shares in the work scheme that are due to come out at the end of this year and I'm taking the opportunity to buy a car off my bucket list so I'm changing regardless.
Got another job done yesterday, the OS headlamp lifter arm had popped its cup off so replaced the arm. Nice to not have the light bouncing around this morning. Todays job is to get the airlock out of the coolant again, I had to bleed some coolant out to get the steelseal in and now it needs burping again.

Its been literally months since ive updated this! Not too much to catch up on though...
Ive finished with the paint, finally. The OSF wing was last on the list and that got done at the weekend. It was all rattle cans and all out in the open and the finish is pretty rubbish but having it all in one colour is a definite milestone, the first time in my ownership. Yesterday I went over it all with a polisher and it's not come out too bad, but there is a few spots ive missed after giving it a wash last night so i'l do some more before posting up some final photos. In the meantime, here is some during ones:
You can also see in that last pic that I crashed it and smashed the splitter. Annoying as that's the only bit of the car that I had pro-painted. I wont be spending the money again, and I got all the bits form the scene to be able to fibreglass it back together so I'll do that one day.
I also fitted a cheap Chinese headunit. It was a whopping £31 posted for a couble din touchscreen and surprisingly its working ok! Whats even better is that its had a couple of moments in the last month, I emailed the seller to let them know and they have refunded me everything, so its basically free.
What else have I done? Actually I think that's it.
In other news I'm not getting my end of year payout anymore so I cant afford my bucketlist car - story of my life. This car is still going son though, Ive got my eye on a car a friend of mine owns and he is keeping it for me while I get this sorted, so that's why the pressure is on to make it presentable. it's an all new story so when that gets a bit closer I'll spill the beans then.

And here it is... the finished article.
Isnt it nice to see a car finally reach its finish line?

Ive only had the car in its finished state for a week, and I quickly rush round it Friday morning to take the above pics before this happened...
That car back on page 1 where we did both engines in one weekend in the freezing cold? it's back, and we are pillaging my car for parts to make one glorious whole car, and leaving my car in a very sorry state with mismatched wheels, all the nice bots taken off and replaced with stock...
Why? because I've bought the other car.
My bucket list car dream has been blown out of the window with events outside of the car world and outside of my control, and the monies and budget that I had for it is being allocated elsewhere. There is a little change though, so I'm letting mine go and getting the other car. it's got less rust, a better history and a better turbo setup. We spent a day swapping everything over, leaving my car like this:
and mine will be on ebay later this week. When it goes, my new car with all my old bits on is waiting for me.
