So, at my most recent sprint, the turbo was experiencing high levels of residual heat which occasionally lead to a small overflow of coolant from the expansion tank if I didn’t do something proactive.
The rad fan wasn’t kicking in as the coolant at the sensor was within the correct range, however, the turbo was F hot as it had just been sat in a queue waiting to go then operated at max boost for a couple of laps, then back to stationary in the paddock with zero airflow. In normal driving it’s not an issue as I always cool down the turbo for the last couple of miles & idle for a few minutes before turning off.
The only thing I could think of was to run the heating full blast as I came off track & then left it on whilst idling for a few minutes. A fan override is needed.
Don’t shoot me down as wiring is one of my many weaknesses……. After mucking about trying to get something working through the (never fitted) Aircon, a friend asked if I used the front fog lights- no, I took them out & use the holes for airfeeds. 💡It’s a switched feed that could be useful… After a quick delve in the inner wing I found the wiring was still there- bingo! So, to cut a long story short, I use this to power the fan override & it works! I have to turn the sidelights on though. But good news, hopefully quick cooling off track 🤞🏻

Years ago my radiator fan packed up on an Austin Princess, in the summer, in a tunnel, beneath Lyon. I cooked the family, but saved the engine, by running the heating on full…

But good news, hopefully quick cooling off track 🤞🏻 I fixed the aircon fan to the radiator after I did the AC delete for "Additional / Cooling" and it works of the old button, its reassuring to have something like that. Also I'm assuming you have an uprated radiator in the car so might be worth getting a new rad cap with a higher rating (1.1/1.3 bar) might help keep the coolant in the system too.

Did a hillclimb last weekend & with a combination of water wetter + with my fan wiring mod, no overheating from the turbo coolant feed 😁😁😁

I did the Gurston Hillclimb course for my 61st Birthday in the ITB Rs ( Hillclimb Sprint bit )( It should have been my 60th Birthday present but the car was not Registered and Covid put paid to it )
I am now down to the ITB Rs, Dads old 1934 Sports Austin 7 ( Austin used for Hillclimbs too )& a Honda CBR600 for commuting to work, also a 20 foot motor boat packing a 90Hp outboard. ( Boat no good for Hillclimbs )
