Does anyone have a towbar for sale for a mk1?
Surely I'm the only mug on the planet that actually wants to tow with one of these?!? |

If I was allowed to tow I'd totally do it in my mx5! Maybe the davefab guys could modify their rear jacking bar to a tow bar or something?

Why are you not allowed to tow? do you have a licence after the towing law change? Youre still allowed to tow, but you're restricted to 750kg total axle weight (or more of your total rig is below 3500kg) apart from the 1 tonne twin axle caravans on the back of a twincab hilux type setup you can actually tow a lot more than you think.

Your MX5 might not be able to tow, but the imports can. If your VIN plate is not marked with a E mark and the car was first registered before 01/08/1998 then the car is legally able to tow, and the towbar does not need type approval.
The only other restriction is that you can only tow a trailer with a loaded axle weight of half the towing vehicle, so a 5 can only pull about 500kg.... but that's fine as my motorbike and trailer combined are less than 300kg!  |

I actually do have a caravan, which weighs just under 700kg, so in theory, I could tow it with my mk1.........however, I have a 3.0 flat 6 Subaru which is better suited for the job. Here it is behind my (sadly sold) Impreza. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a mk1 towbar for you, they sometimes turn up here and there.  |

It's a TAB 320, made by Tabbert in Germany. It's got a cooker, fridge and sink, and a mahoosive double bed, which converts into a seating area for up to 6 with a table. Very comfortable, very light, very well built. I keep it on the drive.

It’s really nice. Kinda thinking about caravan ownership. Mini can only pull 750kg braked so teardrop is ideal.
