I heard the fresh disks on old pads makes your car a death machine, though that person may be wrong Fresh disks with old pads are not a good idea. The old pads bed in and take the profile of the shape of the disk i.e. high spots and low spots, new disk is flat so only the high points of the pads make contact until they wear down, mind you you may be dead by then along with others.

So when changing discs, change pads? Allow them to wear to each other or something I read of that sort
Then using older discs on new pads isn't so bad as the potentially uneven wear on the discs has less of an effect?

Fresh pads is fine on old discs as long as they are in reasonable nick Always replace pads with new discs, apart from the obvious (pads worn against old discs), why wouldn’t you?

Because good pads are £100 but discs are £16+VAT+postage from Autolink? lol

yes but it cost you a lot more than that when your brakes dont work properly!!!

Then you need to be buying comparable quality discs to the pads you are fitting. No different than fitting Pagid or ATE etc discs and ling long wang chung pads and wondering why the car doesn"t stop! "Must be the crap discs" !!

Especially on the road, where balls-out driving is usually not possible and generally inadvisable? lol I'm not very heavy on the brakes usually!

My DMG discs with Axxis ULT were great, so personally for the speeds I'm going on track I haven't seen the need to spend lots on discs. Just get solid vented
However, having not driven with "decent" discs I couldn't say if there is a noticeable improvement to be made. I'd kinda hope there is

It's all down as I understand it to heat management. This is why race pads have to be hot before they become efficient. If your discs store heat or in fact dissapate heat too quickly in relation to what your chosen pads need for maximum efficiency then they will not be operating to the best of their capability. This is why if the pads and discs are not comparable in performance then you will end up with poor braking. This is also why it is never a good idea to use race pads on the road, the first few times you need to brake you will not stop because the pads are cold and not at their operating temperature. Road use pads and discs are always a compromise because of the massively varied conditions they have to cope with. A lot of time, money and effort goes into designing brake systems for road cars so randomly swapping pads/discs is a lottery, your choice!

This was correct in 1982, much like a lot of the other advice given. Plenty of race pads available with extremely flat mu vs temp curves that will stop a car fine when cold. The choice you need to make is more about the amount of bite/dust/type of dust/longevity than anything else nowadays. Tons of caustic dust is no fun on a daily driver but the car will come to a stop just fine. I've run all the permutations in the past: new pads on older disks, new disks on older pads and new disks on new pads. Brake discs cracked but 50% left in pads? Replace discs with spares during the lunch break on a track day and continue. Never had a brake failure, never had a brake problem. Just bed the brakes and go have fun. Only thing to keep in mind is to remove the pad transfer layer when switching between brake pad compounds/brands. Mostly achieved by just using OEM pads during street driving.

Ive never had problems with them. I think the spanish heat and 280hp and your style of driving was too much for them 😅
