Interesting.... so 245s won't fit with stock arches, counter to what people on FB seem to say. Not surprising, 225 is the biggest that can fit, and they ideally need the arches rolling if you're not at standard height Russell

Well, they fit and may not touch. I may have exaggerated a bit when I said I had to, but since I like some margins I rolled the fenders. I really don't like to shred my new tyres There are pictures both with and without pulled fenders on the last pages of this thread

Got me something that I have wanted since I exploded the last engine. This way I know that I can get home. For now it has to short and therefore steep ramps, so loading takes a curb or slope with the splitter on the car. It's also exlusively a car trailer. I do own a couple of welders though, so when I get some free time, I'll turn it into something dual duty, with a lot longer ramps. The toyster is still street driven, its just... I'm getting old and the diesel runaround is quite a lot more comfy for long drives.

04.15 today my alarm went off. After a quick breakfast consisting of a glass of water (one can't eat at 0.4.15!) I got in the car and drove to Mantorp park, one of Swedens fastest tracks. Drove? yep. Due to Swedish rules and my lack of a b96 drivers license, I cant take the toyster on the trailer as of yet. It is 50 kg's above the limit for my license. This is bad. I would have wanted to go in an air conditioned Tailgate McNoIndicate today. So anyway. The day started out fine, avoiding the motorway and going by b-roads. That was nice. Getting to Mantorp the other few early birds where of another breed. And they where in our group. Not quite what we run, but thats part of the fun, isn't it. Sadly I didn't get a photo of the whole pit later in the day. I believe that our cars was among few under 500hp and 200k euros. GT3rs, lambos, AMGs and Ferraris everywhere. This was my fastest lap during the day. An outside temperature of 34 degrees Celcius and noone knows how hot in the sunlight made sure that everyone ran slower than usual. It was also my first time in the toyster on this track. I have gone around it in a 70hp Honda before, but there is a slight difference between that and the Toyster. All in all it was a nice day. Everyone said their times where slower, but compared to the Honda I ran something like 25s faster a lap, so that was fun. It was also a major test for the car with the temps being mediterranean. It almost passed that test. Almost. Brakes worked well, although they got a little blue The car also got home. But in a state that will need some work before it leaves the garage again. Now, what could happen to a 334whp mx5 at a high power track during a massive heat wave? You get no points for guessing correctly here, it's too easy The drive home was... interesting. Videos to follow.

Go on - spill the beans then! Happy belated Sweden day BTW - I was with some of your countrymen over the bridge in Copenhagen yesterday - they were less than happy that they a) had to work on a national holiday and b) that the weather was so nice!

It's in the second video I did manage to drive it home. Slowly, with the gearbox sounding like a can of rocks...

It looks like it broke as you put the throttle on hard coming out of the corner - do you reckon its a combination of the power levels, sticky tyres and the heat in the transmission from the 8 mins or so on track? Swapping in another 6 speed or going to look at something like the Tailgate McNoIndicate swap?

Going to lower power for a while, and swap in my spare 6spd. Then get a transmission cooler for it. There are 500hp street cars not breaking 6spds, so I think heat plays a major part. This was on the last stint. 5x20minutes before this during the day. And 34deg c in the shadow meant that everything trying to cool in direct sunlight had a hard time. My torque level and sticky tires is also part of it. Going with a Tailgate McNoIndicate transmission would be costly. We'll see, if I can get it to survive with a cooler it would be awesome. I don't really need more power. The 630hp zr1 pulled away on the straight. But you know, that has 630hp.... Anyway, I'll try and pick up my spare thats 180km away from the car and will limit boost to 1bar. Hopefully that will do

I don't really need more power. It'll be interesting to see how you get on - it might be worth looking at some heat shielding between the exhaust and the downpipe / midpipe as I would imagine that contributes a lot to how hot the box gets. I wonder if you can tap the sump plug and put a temp sender in - see how hot it actually gets?
