Progress today - removed the spark plugs, spray-copper-slipped the threads (because I forgot to do it yesterday), replaced and torqued them to 15Nm. Wooowwwwww... lol copperslip dries-out in heat situations..... just sayin like personally I use a drip of oil or leave the threads dry like it dry anyway..... Rich.

But... but... the manual said I should and the can of stuff says it is fine for hot things...??! I only put a tiny spray on them and it's not very thick (very liquid!) so even if it does dry out, hopefully no issues will occur! lol

Top tip! Less forum waffling and more assembly will result in a running engine

Top tip! Less forum waffling and more assembly will result in a running engine But I can do forum waffling in the warm and dry and when it's dark outside lol I want a garage and workshop! Anyone got half a million quid for a tiny plot to build something on? Will 'work from home' again tomorrow, so hopefully it will be dry and I can crack on. Doesn't seem a lot to do now, and at least it's outside the engine and isn't required to be meticulously clean 'just in case'!

Ooh, decent weather, cheers for the heads-up! I have got the cambelt on after much faffing - it's a total PITA because the crank pulley moves, the cam pulleys move and won't sit in the correct position, the belt notches don't align nicely with what looks like the correct cam pulley positions... I am pretty sure it is correct now, so fingers crossed, lol. I have also made an ordered worklist - the aim being to stop my brain from thinking about everything I need to do and therefore getting nothing done, by focusing me on the next thing in the list so I can Just. Do. It. I found the winter wheels/tyres in storage as well, so I'll get those swapped on when it's (finally... hopefully...) running. They'll be less scary than NS-2R semi-slicks, lol. I think I might need new discs as they're somewhat rusty after standing for, er, 6 months so I'm hoping the rear calipers won't have seized! I'll try driving around with the handbrake on to clean them off haha

Some (slow) progress! - exhaust gasket and exhaust on - cambelt covers on (mix-and-match bolts noted ) - crank pulley on (correct 'dish out' orientation of the back-plate / spacer-thing checked) - water pump pulley on and auxiliary belt draped over it during fitting (as it wouldn't clear the base of the thermostat housing once the pulley was fitted) It was a beautiful afternoon to be outside but at the end of that I couldn't feel my toes, lol. Quick questions - The crank pulley bolts are supposed to be 12-17Nm on the torque wrench, but even at 17Nm, it's still possible to rotate the bolts a bit more at what feels like not that much effort... (although long torque wrench making it easier is noted). I've therefore sort of done them up to 'click and a bit more turning' so hopefully that will be ok?? Or should I back them off to finger-tight and then do them to 17Nm once-and-done? Not quite sure what to do about the sheared bolts for the exhaust heat shield - I might see if my mechanic can get them out. I will buy correct new bolts for the water pump pulley and the top and middle cambelt covers because it bugs my OCD tendencies, lol, and I don't like the fact that some looked cross-threaded!

Well done on the progress. Hopefully you will be back up and running soon.
Ps
I had noticed you are up to six stars for chatting mind you!
I was going to suggest the mods start taking a star away each week until you are back up and driving. Think of it as a harsh incentive scheme haha. "It's for your own good lad"

I'm not looking forward to getting the inlet manifold on... lol

“X” is a bright and attentive pupil, however he would achieve more if he spent less time chatting to his friends and concentrated more on his class work.....😉

“ I'm not looking forward to getting the inlet manifold on... lol”
Good luck with that...
You shouldn’t have taken the damn thing off in the first place!

You shouldn’t have taken the damn thing off in the first place! lol I didn't have a choice - had to have the head skimmed and the valve sorted! I made notes on what extensions I needed and where I had to put my hands to get the bolts/nuts off, so hopefully refitting is the reverse of removal...
