okey, fitted & wired..... it works I'm intending to make an extra mount bracket to fit on the lower end of the eps gearbox that picks up on the 2 bolt positions that are the 'top' mounts for the clutch & brake pedalboxes ( not as its needed but as an extra support for the column...) otherwise, an easy install. eps takes power from the main fusebox underbonnet, localised earth (dashboard rail) and an ignition 'trigger' (+12v) and has a potentiometer to adjust the assistance. no fitted photos, not realy any diferent to previous Rich.

Great bit of fiddlin’ and an excellent job, but, honestly, is it worth doing?

but, honestly, is it worth doing? yup have the ease of the origonal pas (as removed by the cars previous owner ) and the quicker steering but ability to adjust the assistance to nothing if I feel it's too much, the best of both worlds also now my mrs cannot complain about the heavy steering thinking for evolution2 that it might have a longer upper stem & space the column down from the dashboard by ~10mm but thats possibly for another lifetime as I've too many other projects on the go already Rich.

I'm curious to know if this could be done to an ND as miata.net have a thread on their forum about depowering the EPS. I would just like more 'feel' I have been on nutz and oc forums as well as life and mx5driver for over six years. got my first Mk2 in 2014, second in 2016, got an NC in 2017, was going to get an NA then found a brand new pre-registered ND for 17 grand in 2019. I was either going to pull the fuse or rip out the motor. Wondering now if I could introduce a potentiometer to my existing rack???

I've no idea or knowledge about ND steering but generally all eps systems work along the same lines... they all generally use vss (vehicle speed signal) and maybe engine speed / load as the variables for input, the eps ecu sorts the steering assist reduction @ speed so if you can play with the input power or resistance then I'd guess it'd alter the assist? modern vehicle electronics use canbus to control systems and sometimes altering one can cause a domino effect with others being confused or disabled so be carefull and consider Newtons third law when fiddlin interesting though, going to have a read in Miara.net later Rich.

okey, one year on and still no progress! like anyone expected otherwise? anyway, been playing with the E-pas conversion....... the dashboard is out of my silver car so this (unflattering) image is possible motor to dashboard frame clearance, there IS clearance! can also see the brake pedalbox. from the wheel. another drivers view.... the component parts. Vauxhall Corsa 'B' E-pas column modified to fit an NA Mx5. lower section. anyway, reason behind this post. my take on linking the Corsa epas to the Mazda column, hacksaw to the rescue. the black universal-joint has the same (3/4" diameter with 2 flats) 'drive as the column & epas unit output, this is something from a kitcar builders suppliers that I've just discovered BUT don't like having 2 universal-joints in close proximity so staying with the cross-bolted solid join. the Corsa eps column has a brace bracket that fits to the Corsa dashboard, I'm going to take a leaf from their book and make a plate to connect the bracket to the Mazda pedalbox mounts as an extra mount - is it needed? dunno BUT it's steering so..... Rich.

adding a little more info, sorta double-posted as also on my cars 'thread' and a byproduct of wanting to use traction-control so, this should supply the info to run Corsa based Eps using a vss to control the adjustment of the assistance, hopefully! Rich.

Top geeking! I like having no PAS on mine due to the extra 'feel', but it is likely un-catchable if the back ever does step out unexpectedly and is a PITA to park, so I think an EPAS conversion that's switchable/speed sensitive would be very useful!

This is one of the main reasons why I take the ‘5 out more than the Griff. Heavy steering when parking & you need quick hands to catch it of pressing on. But I am addicted to the noise of the TVR…
