Home safe with the car. Well, what can I say....
Canoeing hell, mainly.
It's stupidly powerful. Insane crip throttle response. I don't even know what it can do yet. Just pulling away is intimidating. The sheer sound and pulling torque from idle. Even on maybe 1/4 throttle being careful you can feel the back end going light under throttle. Can break grip in third, on part throttle. Like a mini Cobra.
Exhaust is insane. Started up in the workshop and sounded like a massive angry bear in a cave. The sound is a complete contrast and shock to the tiny cute image of the MX5. I can't imagine a V8 would be much louder or deeper when you are starting up near a back wall.
I'm physically shattered. In a good scary way. Even just coasting home with the odd throttle blip. No one needs 300bhp in a five. Not with triple the torque at near walking pace. At 65mph on the motorway, in fifth gear, apply say 1/4 throttle... it lunges forward IMMEDIATELY with a wall of sound.
So lots to learn. Lots to master. Pics later.

Don’t put your foot down unless all four wheels are in a straight line 😉

Walking over to the car as it was stored over the break. That back wall and the bare workshop space intensified the start up sound levels!
The new front bumper will be going on at some point. Then those intake holes and badge will be gone.
Engine bay had been cleaned and polished since my last visit...
After a damp run down the motorway it's safely back home.
A temporary thin closed cell foam cover was made up for the bonnet hole. I will make a start on the GRP cover tomorrow onwards.
I got two thumbs up on the way back. One guy leaning out of his window in the pissing rain! It must look and sound a touch mad in the wild.
Wannabe can have a drive as soon as it's dry. Then we can both see what it can do properly, when it's safe to explore it

Wise words. I gave it massive respect so far. I think the noise alone won't let me forget easily!

That sounds officially certified mentalist, lol. Spinning up in third? In the near-dry?? On part-throttle??? New pants, please! You realise my weedy 5 is the only RWD car I've ever owned? We better find an airfield so there's nothing to hit! I think an airfield trackday could be a very good plan - give you the chance to really open the taps with no worres about parking it in the scenery, lol. There's some company that does it at North Weald IIRC - I went to one before and it's as abrasive as airfields always are, but it's very open. Have the garage chaps driven it? What did they say? lol How are you finding the non-PAS rack? Or is the main concentration right now on keeping it in a straight line?! No more pulling out and mashing the accelerator into the carpet with no worries, lol.

Bear in mind it was properly damp today. Standing puddles in places.
Matt at the garage said he spun the wheels in fourth, in the damp. So yeah. That.
Non PAS... harder at very slow speed tight junctions one handed. But fine. Just need to man up and deal with it. On the roll, it's cool as. Yeah as you say, the steering isn't even on my radar. The complete focus is managing the throttle, while trying to ignore / laugh at the sheer mega wall of sound. It's scary and hilarious all at once. Mashing the throttle is no longer an option until I get used to it. Or it's bone dry.
To summarise it's a little more nippy than my girls 75bhp Audi thing. Forgot it's damn name.

Flashback...
This is engine number 1 arriving, a long time ago. Back then my car had a soft top, small brakes, different interior, loads of details were missing. Funny now, ignoring all the time, money, hassles which past in between the two photos. A pipe dream on a trolley turned to reality.
For the eagle eyed... when you do these swaps the top Honda plenum gets turned around 180 degrees so the throttles point to the front of the car. Or even better remove the entire top and recycle it That top yellow metal pulley is the steering pump which gets removed, along with loads more dead mass.

You will be perfectly safe, the engine doesn’t run....😜

No one needs 300bhp in a five. Not with triple the torque at near walking pace. With all do respect, I beg to differ. It's good You will get used to it, but you can't drive it like a normal 5. Throttle management is everything. 245/40/15 ar-1 does help.

Oh I am sure I will change my tune. I was simply giving my honest initial "Canoe me" reaction, coming from a low powered car. With time and practice comes a change in perspective. I'm looking forward to improving my skills and hopefully becoming one with it. But for now, it feels a bit like jumping on a wild horse haha

It feels a bit like jumping on a wild horse haha Exactly like it should be I was scared of full throttle for something around two weeks. In the summer though, driving my car in this would be...bad. But you get used to it all too fast.

I've had a few cars with 300bhp before. Although they were massively tamed with either fat 1800kg kerb weight for my V8 CLS, or AWD to handle the Subaru PPP's output. Having that same level of shove in a little kart with no tracion, no ABS, RWD on sensible sized all season tyres is a little different haha.
Previously the most character I've had in a car engine was my 147 GTA Alfa. That had many faults, but the engine note was the best part of it. At the time I thought it's engine soundtrack was amazing. By comparison it's like a milkfloat next to this.
