Well it's a bout time I started my own thread. I'm not that good at keeping things up to date and loading pics always seems a pain so be patient. A guy from work seems to always have had one, in fact he has 2 so I've seen it around and lusted. Promised myself one day ... I've had a couple 205 gti 1.9 in the past and loved them, also still have a VW caddy pickup, have had a MK1 golf GTD (rare beast even in Europe). The ripe old age of 50 coming along I got my wife to accept the idea that that was going to be my 50 year crisis present to myself Looked around but nothing showed up. I wanted a 1.8 mk1 but those don't come around much in France because of tax reasons they didn't sell much. So after missing a few in Germany I found one in Holland. '94 mk1 1.8 BRG with hardtop ... now to figure out the picture part ...

right I think I have found a way but it's going to be time consumming for sure ! So I picked this MX5 up, from northen Holland, the car is actually German origin, was imported 10 years prior to me taking it to France. So German Japanese car in France with a English owner !!!! The extra tyres are the winter steel rims, also came with a softtop cover. Softop torn and sort of water tight, to be changed. I had a list of things I wanted to do to a MX5 when I had one but the lmist is getting longer

side view for the BBS wheels. I refurbished them with lots of sanding and spray cans, the polished edge was to rough for me to repolish so ended up with the same finish as the middle

Looking good! Wheels look nice, excellent work I thought the Frenchies hated engine modifications?? Or is an exhaust change permitted?

the "frenchies" law keepers hate any modification, as in any. you can't even change the color of your car ... as for exhaust it's partially ignored. If you get an over zealous police you'll get stopped and noise and polution tested.
I've done some other stuff so I'll get some more pics up

well the car as come down from the lift. Engine changed for another second hand one. Took the time to do all the maintenance stuff, belts, filters, seals etc. changed the clutch. put new diff rubbers, adjusted the ppf. And drove it home (garage is 50 miles away) well I did do about half. The traffic jams were bad, start stop start stop etc. rev needle was starting to go crazy and all of a sudden the engine stopped and would not start up again so got a tow truck to take me home tried again and again, nothing. pulled one spark lead off to check spark and the flipping engine started up. so erratic rev counter then no or bad spark would this be just a bad/dead coil pack? any other thoughts?

Glad to hear you got all the work finished!
When it went weird in traffic, was it overheating? Would It turn over on the key but not actually start?

No overheating at all. Engine turned over beautifully, just sounded like no gas or no spark. Coil pack is probably the original one so about 180k km

I may be completely wrong but it could be worth checking your earth straps, to make sure they are fitted properly and secure. Electricity does weird things!

Little update, the garage seem to think it was one of the coil pack connectors. They got it running again, took it to the MOT, no remarks I didn’t really like the way the engine sort of choked when pressing throttle after having slowed down. Swapped the coil pack with a spare one I had, with a bit less mileage, changed the spark plus leads ( spark plugs are new). Still does this chocking business …untill the engine is really hot, then it doesn’t do it anymore. Kind of annoying, anybody have any ideas?
