Just found this at .... rimstyle.com
15" Rota RB Alloy Wheels Silver with Polished Rim
These 15" Rota RB Alloy Wheels are part of the ever popular Rota range of Alloy Wheels for 2020. For more information on the Rota range of Alloy Wheels please CLICK HERE.
We class this wheel as a Multi-Spoke wheel design - which has 8 or more spokes, inspired from a motorsport heritage. It also features a deep-dish on the outer rim. This is where the ends of the spokes are recessed from the front face of the wheel to create a step.
This 15" Rota RB (Silver with Polished Rim) wheel comes in 15x8.0" only.
Ps. I got blank centre caps.
Regards. Rich.

As already said it's most likely the coilovers however heavy wheels will also make the ride worse - I went from 15x7 Lorbers with brand new Yokohama AD08R's in 195/50 to 15x8 Enkei RPF1's fitted with the same tyres (I basically had the tyres fitted to the Lorbers, drove home and bought the RPF1's) and the ride quality was massively improved depsite the now slightly stretched tyres.
Almost 2kg between each wheel makes a big difference.

So a quick update on this in case anyone is interested.
I tried my car today on 7'' wide wheels (rota RBs I think, not that it really matters!) And it totally transformed the car. Ride and steering were suddenly massively improved. So there's a lesson there...!

Did you weigh the wheels when you swapped them over? Interested to know the difference.

Did you weigh the wheels when you swapped them over? Interested to know the difference. I didn't. But I'll be changing them soon so will be able to weigh them then. My current wheels are Japan racing JR6 in 15x8 et25 flavour of you can find specs for them.

Wheel weight makes a massive difference to ride, but should also marginally improve steering feel, acceleration and braking. I lost 10lbs a corner with a switch from 195/50/15 on 15x6.5" to 185/60/14 on 14x6" - car was great before but feels like a magic carpet now. Both sets of wheels had an offset of +38. You may find that the offet of +25 on your current wheels is also not helping. Have a read of chapter 4: Miata Performance Handbook (Keith Tanner of Flying Miata fame) MX5s would seem to be particularly sensitive to offset variations (standard is +45mm)

My plan is to buy some decent (read light) wheels now that I have some confidence that it would be worthwhile. Expensive but fun at least!

It ought to be said that 15 x 8 et25 wheels 'could' feel every bit as good as 15 x 7 et40 wheels, or anything else if the car has been aligned properly to suit it. The MX5 is really sensitive to any changes, and the alignment should be reset every time you change anything, and as a minimum, once a year anyway
That said, I've had a set of 15 x 7 wheels that weighed 9.1kg each (Compomotive), 15 x 9s at 5.6kg each (6ULs) and some 14 x 6.5s at 3.6kg each (magnesium Watanabe) ... that sort of weight difference totally changes the handling on an MX5

IMO any wheel and tyre combo that keeps it under 14KG a corner is already doing great. All my wheels are 15" and the lightest combo I've got is 11.1KG and the average is around 14KG. 195/50r15 "Slicky Race Boy" tyres tend to be more than 9KG and the big-name "Eco Summer" ones can be under 7KG.. Balance for road driving .. trying to get a great tyre that's under 8KG and a wheel that's under 6KG. and you that 14KG minimum acceptable combination. My Apache 2s, the only 8" wheels I have, are heavy wheels at 7.85KG. .. but the total is barely over 14KG ( 14.55KG ) because they're paired with a super-light eco tyre.. and tyre is Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 195/50 R15 V 6.7KG (2015). I tend to get my tyre weights from amazon btw, and then double check them on scales at home.

Keep in mind that when you switch from 15s to 14s you are not just noticing any potential weight difference but also the addition of another 10mm of tire-sidewall. That will smooth the ride out considerably...more so than the difference in weight. I used to switch between 15x8ULs with light 195s to 14x6's of similar weight with heavy 185-70-14 winter tires. The winter tires made the PU bushings tolerable over cobblestones despite being an overall heavier setup.

that tread wall is a huge thing.. and 13/14" really suit the NA/NB chassis and profile/look. I can't understand people personally choosing to go with 16"+ wheels and lower profile tyres on the NA (ok, idiots looking at driftworks rota wheel choices thinking more is better). Some of the special edition NB wheels were atrociously heavy 16"s which felt like driving with clogs. The NB can get away with 16"s for racing IMO, but as a street option it's far from pleasant for daily prarrie canoee roads.

The benefits of light-as-possible wheel/tyre combinations are big enough to warrant chucking some decent money at it IMHO. For reference, my 14x7 RPF1s with 195/60 14 Sportrac 5s weigh 10.4 kg, Watanabe RS8 14x6 with 185/60 14 Rain Experts 11 kg, 14x6 OEM BBS with 185/60 14 Kumhos 12.kg, Mazdaspeed MS01R 15x7 with 195/50 15 Poundlands a disappointing 14.5 kg. The 14" tyres are 6kg -7 kg. Maybe we should get a sticky list going.

I haven't finally decided what wheels to go for, but I'm thinking I'll get some decent ones.
I was always planning to replace my JR items at some point anyway as I liked the look of them but they were fairly heavy and not very well finished (though cheap).
I'm looking at some Image wheels at the moment, but they aren't cheap!
