Windscreens are for softies Have you used the Motordrive seats before? I've got one I picked up for cheap but it is... 'flexible'... much more than I thought it would be, hence I've not installed it.

I had it sat on the floor with all my bodyweight in it (which isn't even that much) but it just felt like it was twisting with the base still on the floor! I want a Racetech but they are not cheap and I'd have to cut the wings off to make it fit... lol

Road trip day today, the weather was kind so it was pretty uneventful. The guy I got the axle & coilovers / brakes off has converted his Sunbeam to a Subaru setup ... some amazing engineering in his car!! The parts were as described ... if anything, in better condition than I'd expected which is a relief as it was an 8 hour round trip. I managed to get a set of rear shocks thrown in as well, should be good for mocking up at least! So all I need to do now is work out which bits go where ... I'm so far out of my comfort zone right now!! Russell

The lightest form of air conditioning!! Yes I've had a couple of Motordrive seats before, really good seats so not sure what's going on with yours. I'd bolt it in & try again, being bolted in is part of what keeps a seat rigid ... I'd put Motordrive above Sparco / OMP etc, but below Recaro / Bride ... they're race seats more than road, although it might depend how old they are, and what history they have? Russell

Russell I can't remember how old they are now but they are not 'new' - perhaps 2007?? They were a secondhand buy a while ago and have been in the garage/storage for I don't know how long lol I'm not mad-keen on the wings on them anyway TBH - I hate seats that push your shoulders forward and make you sit in some weird sort of foetal position, I need room to move and lower back support because I have quite wide shoulders and a spine made of cheese! #oldman

It's just beginning to sink in just how much work is needed here ... looking at the rear axle, and the 4 link kit ... so I somehow need to work out where the axle needs to sit, and where I need to weld the tabs so the 4 link and lanyard rod hold it in place allowing the correct movement with the suspension. Talking if which, I need to work out what length shock I need, with what rate of springs ....
Gulp, feeling a bit out of my depth here!🤣
Part of me is wondering about buying a rusty impreza and cutting the front and rear out of the chassis, and make it 4wd ... a lot of welding & fabrication, but it kinda be simpler!!

NO. got a spare mazda rear setup lying around? would have thought thats an 'easier' rear axle setup (had guessed the talbot 4 bar wouldnt fit the shells 5 or 6 link setup ) youve got the front sorted Rich. (full of great advice )

I've been trying to proceed carefully with this car ... partly trying to work out what's 'right' for the car given it's history, and also what can I afford / have the skills to do!
I've been asking for ideas on some of the retro rally pages on Facebook, and I got contacted by one of the previous owners, as he had loads of info and pictures from when he raced it. Had a few chats with him, and the upshot is I'm now selling the car to a friend of his who'd always liked it.
Bit sad that I won't see it through, but I think it will be better for the car long term ... and better for my wallet short term! It will be put back to how it was about 12 years ago, with a Toyata 4age engine on carbs, and the MSA log book will be renewed so it can be rallied again
