I'm looking at upgrading my exhaust over time, I want to start with the back box (for obvious reasons, look/sound)
I've got a mk2.5,and I'm thinking either cobalt or mx5parts, both seem like popular choices of a decent quality without breaking the bank.
Does anyone have experience of both?
The only direct comparisons I can find on YouTube etc. are on mk1's which apparently are an entirely different beast when talking about the exhausts.
I want a throatier, deeper sound but nothing that's going to piss the neighbours off or wake my kids from a street away! Lol.
All opinions on other systems or boxes welcomed.

General consensus is the cobalt is the one to go for if you want nicer sound but not too loud
My mk1 had a mx5parts dual which was both loud and pretty drony. Been in a couple of other mk1s and mk2s which have cobalt and the experience was nicer
Racing beat is also a great choice for the whole exhaust from headers to back box, although a bit more expensive

I found my cobalt a bit annoyingly loud on motorways and possibly just a bit too loud over all. But I was also not running a cat, which may have been the reason.
Now I have a turbo its just a little bit too quiet for me!

I don't do much motorway driving in the mx5 (weekend toy) so the droning shouldn't bother me much, but this is some good insight, thanks.

Now I have a turbo its just a little bit too quiet for me! Yeah I've heard mixed reviews about them, often people stating they're too quiet?! But I believe there is a "bedding in" period to acknowledge too, after which they get louder? Presumably due to the baffles getting a little coked up once in use.

Rich.

I had a cobalt on my mk1 as there is a moss shop near me, in Bristol. After a few months it started droning, this got louder and louder. I took it back to Moss, turned out the baffles had collapsed inside to they replaced it under warranty
no problems after that

Someone on IG just got there's totally replaced with a newer version backbox as the old one had developed an air hole in one of the welds. Can't fault that!

I want a throatier, deeper sound but nothing that's going to piss the neighbours off or wake my kids from a street away! thats what the cobalt on my '91 sounded like probably not helped by the baffles / wadding degrading as it was about a year old when I bought the car (fitted new by the previous owner) I 'fixed this somewhat by chopping off the comedy oversized tailpipe & welding some plain pipe of the same diameter as the rest of the system in place seems to be that some are loud & drone whereas others are good is this owners opinion OR build quality? (any idea where are they made? ) Rich.
