Hi, Just bought a MK3 2.0i on a complete whim. Heard good things about them so thought why not. Couple of questions if I may - Apologies as you probably see these questions 100's of times. 1) What immediate modifications would you suggest on a fairly limited budget ? air induction/remap etc ? 2) Front lights are glazed ? Is there a fix (besides buying new)

1) What's your budget ? Is there anything wrong with the car ? Anything it can't do as well as you want ? which you want it to do better ? 2) You glazed or clouded up ? If it's on the surface, there are decent headlight repair kits from most of the detailing suppliers which include some gritty compound, polishing pads and a spray can of clearcoat. It's an hour job including the prep. look up "headlight repair kit" on the usual suspects. Welcome to mx5 ownership

There's nothing wrong with the car in fact i'm massively impressed with the value for money. I suppose I was just looking at where to start (cost-wise) for handling and performance. I've seen a lot of differing info re air induction kits, and dropping suspension by 30mm etc. but to be honest I haven't worked on a car for 30+ years so have no idea where to start. I have quickly found though I need to buy a trombone cleaner !!!

First thing would be a Skuzzle Motorsports intake, they gain a bit of power. If you're anywhere near him (South Coast) then he'll be able to sort out any next steps... remap and exhaust manufold both give decent gains. If you're up north, there's Roddisons in Sheffield who can do the same sort of thing

Lowering springs and an alignment are well worth doing, although this can make the rear a bit bouncy. If you can afford it Meister coilovers (or similar) would be the optimum route.
Changing the manifold for an aftermarket deletes the restrictive cat, keeping the stock centre section with the second cat is enough to pass emissions, add a remap and you're well on your way ( that might all be in the fast road package mentioned above).
Double din headunit is a must also.
If I got another NC that's the way I'd go with it.
