Question 1. After looking around online and being advised 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40 I went for middle of the road and bought 5w40 fully synth oil... Now it seems everyone is saying 10w40 only? Is this going to be an issue?
Question 2. I've now been told I wont be back at work in August either (ffs) so am considering doing the cambelt change myself on yhe drive. I'm probably going to by the full kit from Mx5 parts to save faffing about online for the next 10 days. I'll also replace the camshaft o-rings. I can't find any guides anywhere for the vvti engine, so anything I need to be aware of? Anything scary? Am I opening myself up to a nightmare job?

5/10 is the cold start maximum thickness - 5 is usually recommended for colder climates because it's thinner at start-up, but it does also mean it gets round the engine a bit quicker (IIRC) when it's warm, which might help reduce noisy tappet issues. Both 5 or 10 are fine for the UK unless we're in the depths of winter, I believe, and even then 10 should be fine if you don't give it death from cold.
