Hi All
What's the general consensus on high performance road tyres these days - looking at the date code on my Federal 595 RSRs they are coming up to 10 years old (!!) so could probably do with replacing (although a lot of that time the car has been dry stored).
595 RSRs seem to be out of stock everywhere 595 RS-Pros appear to be similar R888's are probably a bit too much for primarily a road car Yoko AD08RS seem to be available, and used to be quite well rated Yoko A052s seem to be new(er), and are quite a bit more expensive
Anything else worth looking into?
Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon. I’d look at the Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 205/50 x 16”
These are a real performance tyre which are ultra quiet and great in the wet as well as the dry. And affordable.
Regards. Rich.

Mytyres has a couple of versions of Michelin Pilot Sport 3 listed, between £123 and £144 (other vendors are available, naturally): www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Michelin/Pilot-Sport-3/205-50-R16-87V/R-186367www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Michelin/Pilot-Sport-3/205-50-R16-87V/R-261807Difference appears to be fuel rating of D or E so I presume the compound has changed, but having enquired about a similar situation with another tyre (can't remember which now) Michelin would likely just say 'they're both the same / you can use both on the same car at the same time with no issues'. Having had 195/50/15 PS3 on a set of 15x7s on the 5 previously (chosen because I am a ham-fisted moron with no on-road RWD experience prior to the 5, therefore wanted something very definitely high performance rather than the cheaper stuff with lower overall grip even if it meant losing out on some 'adjustability' that would have seen me reversing into a ditch at speed...) they were very secure in all weathers and had more than enough grip for all but brain-out hooning, so I'd buy those with confidence again.

I tell you what, it would be really helpful if I wasn't a muppet and put the right tyre size in the title, wouldn't it... Sorry!
205 50 R 15, not 16... #facepalm

Just to throw in my 2 pence worth, I run 205/50/15 Nankang NS2R's on the rear of mine - And albeit noisy on the motorway I've been surprised how good they are for the price.

NS2R are so noisy that they made me wonder if my diff had broken but I agree, they are remarkably good in inclement / cold conditions for the sort of tyre they are.

AO52s jon I just swapped mine over to my spare R888Rs & the difference is huge. The Yokohamas are waaaay better, also they work nicely in the wet which R888Rs don’t.

Thanks Howard. Are they fairly tame on the road - aren't horrendous when cold or anything nasty like that?
The 595 RSRs that are on there at the moment can be a little iffy in the cold..

Jon, not in my experience. They’re one of the best tyres I think I’ve driven on. A friend of mine has just put them on his turbo 5 & describes them as ‘limpets’🙂

Jumping in on this rather than starting a new thread…
I do one or two trackdays a year, I ain’t no pro, and have done fine on RS3s at Croft and Anglesey. Granted I usually do them in Spring or Autumn rather than in the middle of summer.
Due another set soon, I’m not looking for laptimes, but something predictable, stiff sideway, that won’t kill me in a torrential downpour on the motorway.
V701 still a good shout?
