Did my 1st sprint at Lydden Hill yesterday. Great track, really suits the MX5 as it’s mostly corners. Had a bit of a technical problem after the 1st run… The turbo was overboosting on flat out up changes causing missfire. Initially I thought the spark was being blown out but I gapped the plugs in the lunchbreak & no issues. I turned the boist down a tad & drove around the missfire. On the journey home, the overboosting was really pronounced. So, having had a poke about this morning, have found a hairline crack between where the downpipe meets the flange. Will need to get that fixed asap. Anyway, back to the racing- I got quicker each time & had a right old battle with some good cars/drivers. On the last run, I won Classic Marques & roadgoing over 2300cc.

Your time was awesome howardb66 - beating Brian Winstone's £300K+ Porsche 911 GT2RS is never a small feat, even if he is a bit crumbly these days. I know Alex Peters in the Jag F-type who was third in your class, and he was at Rushmoor yesterday...he mentioned being beaten by the Porsche but not being beaten by your MX5!
Incidentally I looked up my best time at Lydden from 2021: 96.43s - that would only have been good enough for third in class A3 on Saturday. With my handicap that would have come out around 83s, which is encouraging for if I actually make it to a CM event anytime soon! I only did one practice run there last year as the engine seized on my first timed run.

Less Haste = More Speed !!! My mate made a plate to stop putting the car in fifth by accident.
I could never get a 'quick' gearchange on my silver car's 5 speed gearbox, just a few seconds between gears evry time I was off for a 'spirited' drive Rich. My problem is I think I am trying to put it in first. I know the solution, I should just use a flat hand , not grip the gearstick, and slow it down a fraction. I just wasn't on it at Wiscombe

I was at Prescott at the weekend for Midsummer 1 and 2 and had a tight battle with Phil in the other mk2 mx5. He beat me by 2 tenths on the first day and 3 tenths on the second day. We both set PBs on the second day as well , his was just a bit quicker then mine. Excellent venue and a very technical hill I did have a touch of wiscombes again and fluffed a few gearchanges but managed decent timed runs each day. My fastest was a 54.30, Phil was a 54.00. The mk3s (Aaron, Ben and Pekka) where in the 52s which is mental. I think this is my quickest on Saturday , I havent uploaded Sundays yet link

What's the difference in power between yours and Pekkas? I met him at Goodwood back in April and he was beating some serious machinery in the over 2300 cc class.

I agree with semi circle that was my weàkest corner I think
Pekka has two mk3s in the same colour, one is Bristol MC challenge spec ie mostly standard and the other is turbocharged and running over 400bhp , I think he had the turbo at Goodwood

At Goodwood he was third in class, behind a McLaren 570S and Jag F-type R, both with well over 500 bhp - and only a second behind the Jag. Pekka was 15 seconds faster than my 1.6 NA!

Good luck for tomorrow 🤞🏻 Thanks Howard! 17 of the Classic Marques crew entered for Brooklands, so should be a good competition. 11 competitors in class A3, must be a record! Also the hillclimb at Epynt this weekend Zed.

I hear you did well. Good one. You need to do some more CM rounds🙂 Castle Combe in July isn’t full…. Ha yeah, I do appear to have come first in CM, though I've realised my handicap was down as being on 1A and I was on my 1B tyres, so not sure if my handicap should be adjusted for my first event when I move up or after it? Just worked out that with 1B handicap I would have been second, after Mark Everett in the Griffalo.
I'm actually a bit annoyed that I didn't come first in class too, I was leading after the first timed run and then had spins on the second and third runs, and a chap in a classic Mini found a second on his last run and beat me by 3 hundredths! It was the same guy who won last year, and I had been too busy focusing on one of the Fiestas who usually beats me. Still, 2nd in a class of 11 will get me a decent chunk of points in the Sevenoaks Speed League.
I know everyone will want to see the spins, so here they are:
and the actual timed run that scored:

Results adjusted to take my 1B tyres into account, and I was second in CM, only just. Now even more frustrating that I dropped it on the last 2 runs! Ah well, never going to get enough events in to challenge at the top this season. Maybe next year!

Last weekend was the Nottingham SCC sprint at Curborough. Unfortunately, I was having some issues with my MX5 so was unable to drive mine. Luckily, a fellow CM competitor very generously let me drive his. It’s a similar spec to mine as I helped him put it together, there are a couple of differences being Rainsport tyres & a 6 speed box. I didn’t place as highly as previously & as it was a really hot day, the Rainsports weren’t giving their best- if I had a brain I would’ve remembered the spare set of A052s in my garage 🤨 Here’s the run-
