Pulled #1 Plug again and cranked it over. There was a spark but as I leant forward to check the colour there was a big backfire up through the plug hole!

a click may not be enough, I've had one that clicked but wouldn't give enough current to run the pump properly (low fuel pressure). ignition/timing if you do have some fuel on the plugs. cas ? also did you check the big ignition relay under the dash ? it's much bigger than the B6S8, I think it's called B577. I've ordered both B6S8 and B5S4 relays to rule them out of the equation. Woo  |

So I don't forget again. . .  fill the fuse socket with sillycon or 'poxy resin, then theres no chance of oopsies again  Anyone know what this plug is for? It's on the same branch of the loom as the coil pack connector.  the singlewire 02 sensor? Rich. |

Cheers guys. That would explain why I can't find anything to plug it in to, as I have an Innovate LC-1 wideband sensor installed.

Update: it's not the B6S8 relay. No change with replacement.
I'm going to replace the CAS this weekend and see if that helps as I have a spare in the garage. I also have a spare Cam cover (and seal), so will cut that to expose the CAM gears and spray it up at the same time.

FFS. Tried to do the CAS replacement quickly to check that was the issue.
Removed CAS. Couldn't get it out without removing the coil pack.
Then couldn't get new one in.
Ended up removing cam cover anyway to refit CAS.
Then realised I hadn't marked the CAS position before removal.
Got it all refitted (approximated timing for now)
Car still won't start, but backfired. . . Twice.

Cam cover off again this morning to check belt. 19 theeth between cam wheel marks and everything aligned. WtF is wrong with my car?  ?? This is why I gave up last time, but I will not be beaten! |

Just a guess here could it be the ignititer? (Not sure of exact name). In the picture above it is to the right of the fuse box.

That's bizarre - I was literally just googling about the ignitor when you posted that message. I'm wondering if my ignition settings (dwell time, etc) have burned it out. It was never quite the same after I uprated the injectors to RX8 Yellows (435cc) which suggests I may have fiddled with something I shouldn't have done. It's been so long since I did the tuning and all my MS2 research I've forgotten everything and even though tunerstudio will now connect I'm not sure if my settings are correct or not anymore! Really bloody frustrated with this. |

Do you have anybody who can give you a fresh pair of eyes, and come over and make you go through everything from the beginning?
It's really easy to overlook things when you have been staying at our like a madman.

Going to post them online and see if anyone can see something obvious that I'm missing. Can't refer to my old tune/basemap, as it's on a laptop I've forgotten the password to.šµ |
