Found some seats I want to put in my mx5, they come with universal runners. I'm pretty confident that the seat will fit in the mx5 but what I'm not sure about is how high it will sit and how they actually fix to the mx5.
What do the runners fit on to? I assume something will need modifying which isn't an issue as long as it's simple like drilling holes and the like.
Never done a seat swap before so no idea how it all works!

MX5 floor is not flat which makes it a bitch. What seats are they?

They're Bad Boy Classics, last one on this page. Measurements are Dual Reclining Mechanism Measurements: Width Across Base= 52cm Width Across Backrest= 52cm Depth (inc back rest tilt)= 60cm Height= 92cm

Ask for the dimensions between the bolt holes in the bottom to mount them. Drivers side will probably fit, pass side I doubt.
Also. £200 for a pair of new seats? I'm not sure they're going to last long, be comfortable or safe if the worst should happen.
Sorry to sound like a miserable sod.
Best bet is some tried and tested seats that are know to fit. You looked at mk2.5 leathers? They bolt straight in.

Ask them for the width between base mounts, they might be close enough to standard to drill your existing runners.
ETA: Beaten to it. Damn you Horney, damn you.

I already have mk2 leathers in my car. I just don't like the amount of red on them. I just don't know if I want to go full on bucket seats, I like the idea of semi buckets/sport seats as I drive 2 hours a day in it.
Not got a massive budget either, £300-350 tops.

Tried leather dye? It's pretty effective.

Look for mk2.5 seats, they're different from yours I think as they have an in built headrest.
Elise/vx220 seats are good too.

Already have a buyer for my seats so want to replace them really.
I know which ones you mean and I'm not a huge fan of the mk2.5's.
I've asked for the dimensions, see what they say.

Just got a reply saying the width is about 345mm.

Might be a tad wide to fit straight on the runners then, they're about 33cm I think. You might just get away with it by drilling slightly offset holes and using cap heads, and opening up the runner to floor mount holes as well?

IIRC, I measured the bolts at the front of the runners (where they bolt to the floor) as about 13.5".

That would be 343mm'ish.....so they should be easy to fit right?

Passenger rails are narrower as is the space so you'll have to fab up a bracket of some sort. Sounds like the drivers side shouldn't be too much bother.
