I play anything, I have a hugely eclectic taste in music. When I was actually DJing back in the late 90's it was very much the hard house stuff like Tony deVit with a side line of dark drum and bass. I know fancy just building mixes from a mish mash of styles and sounds to see what I can come up with. I have to say I'm well out of touch of the various genres of dance music that seem to exist now, everyone wants a pigeon hole. I just like music with a beat and mixing it together.

I do exactly the same, I go on, click add everything I like to my basket and then sieve through them again and again until I'm down to £20, then you know you're only getting stuff you actually like. It's so easy to spend loads. Yep that's exactly how I do it as well. I normally find quite few tracks on the second pass that I'm not really sure why I put them in the basket in the first place! What dance genres do you normally play? I started out with trance when it was all the rage in the 90s/00s, then started playing electro and funky house. These days I play mostly tech house but still play my old electro tracks and keep look out for any new good ones. yeah you run through them and wonder what the hell you clicked buy it for
im into dnb mainly but also like my electro and minimal house, only really well versed in dnb though... I feel a mighty 5s festival brewing lol

I like the idea of a mighty5s festival! That would be awesome. I've recently started getting into liquid DnB, it's great music for working or driving to. I produce mostly chillout/downtempo stuff but have been experimenting a bit with liquid DnB. Used to love my hard dance too Horney, used to go to a lot of hard house raves when I first moved to London in the early 2000s. They had the most friendly crowds! But I agree, there are way too many sub-genres now, if it's got a kick and a dirty bassline I'm happy

I refer you, most honourable gentleman, to Dubstep, or DUB573P as per my numberplate
did you get the Andy C nightlife 6? it came with about 80 free (decent) singles and 3 mixed tracks from the main man, believe one of the 3 mixes was liquid... awesome CD for £10!

Well that was evening of re-learning things and a lot of fun. Managed to get back to reasonable beat matching quite quickly which was a relief. Ended up doing about 2 hours worth of mixing and I had forgotten just how much fun it is. Curiosity had me have a play with the sync functions. That's more confusing than beat matching the old school way, I couldn't figure it out or get it to work for toffee! Probably my age. Once I'm a bit more back in the groove (or should that be code?) I'll start to have a play with using the sample and loop pads, all that is very new to me as I was always just a two decks and a crossfader kinda guy.

It's always good getting back into it after a while. I must say that I do make use of the sync button quite a lot since you spend less time beatmatching and more time messing around with loops and creative stuff. It can be a bit tricky to set up intially though - if I remember correctly, with Serato you have to analyse the track first before it will know what BPM to assign to it (so you need to spend some time going through your music collection and analysing all the tracks). But I'm still proud to say I have learned the art of manual beatmatching
