Oh, and I drove mine to the petrol station to check the tyres, only to find the machine was (still) out of order...
I appear to have a binding rear calliper, though, which is annoying.

Thanks all, think it'll be the Roddison pads as I don't want to break the bank, but don't want to buy rubbish either.
Think I'll try the full booster swap and see how that goes since I've got all the parts anyway, my booster has always looked a bit ratty and it needs a tidy up underneath, good a reason as any.

All sorted, taxed, MOTd and insured Can't believe it's been over 6 months, but at least I now know how to replace an engine, remove a gearbox and replace a clutch! I'll try to focus on driving the Mazda and finishing the Isetta for a while, though I do have some front suspension arms and new coilovers to fit, and ITBs, and a COP setup, and a new ECU....

Great news, glad you got to the bottom of it in the end. All good experience, the rest of the parts should be a walk in the park!

Went out for a blast around the lanes last night, partly to give it a proper shakedown, and partly to get ready for the rally tomorrow night. My navigator joined me to blow the cobwebs off too, and it was a good simulation: raining, muddy, puddles everywhere. We did a few sections from an old event to get back into the swing of it, and had a great time.
The car performed very well, though it does make me want to swap the suspension to the new MeisterRs sooner rather than later! Temperature reading was always low, eventually it got somewhere past the C but never made it to the middle of the gauge like it used to. Also the oil pressure readings were higher than on the old engine, mostly in the 4-6 psi range whereas the old one was more like 2 psi when warm. I need to work out why my rear screen demist isn't working, think it's probably something simple like a fuse/relay, since the radio aerial doesn't go up and down like it used to. I fitted a HRW switch to the dashboard a while back and it's never worked, so if I replace the dud fuse and it still doesn't work, maybe it doesn't have the HRW relay people always talk about, which I thought wasn't needed if you have a power aerial.
Anyway, just glad to be out enjoying the little scruffbag again!

Realised I didn't post anything about last Friday's rally, first event since killing the engine last July. All went (mechanically) without a hitch, can't detect any obvious lack of power compared to the old engine (the replacement is from an automatic), and it all worked nicely. Roads were very muddy and slippery so I did manage to lock the front brakes and had a few hairy moments, all part of the fun of night navigational rallies! At one hairpin junction I managed to beach the car on its chassis rails but escaped in the end. The temperature gauge did eventually get somewhere near the middle, and the heater didn't seem to be doing a lot of heating, so probably need to check for blockages/air in the coolant system. I've checked in the boot about the heated rear window: the fuses by the battery/aerial are present and not blown, but the relay for the HRW behind the numberplate trim was missing, so I've got one of them to fit and will see if it works.

The image hosting site I've been using doesn't seem to be working properly this week, so I'm trying a link to a Facebook page where the photographer has put some shots up: Nice I fancy doing one of these things but I don't trust myself not to end up sideways in a ditch in the pitch dark... lol

(Doesn't work so well in the summer as you can't see the other cars coming so can't go as fast).

Finished PID tuning the boost control on the blue car. I could probably improve on it but I'm happy enough. Gains for the P/I/D are set at 0.5, 0.02, and 4.00 respectively and it hits things appropriately from low and without stupid spikes when I floor it mid-range (the D 4.00 does that) I've left it at 175KPA max target but I may run it at 180 when I get it on a dyno to see what the torque figure is. There's a mild spike to 180 but that's quickly dealt with. Most of the work was in getting a decent open loop duty table where the boost would be within 5% of the target and then very carefully going through the PID tuning guide (took multiple tries... PID is a bit of a dark art frankly). I've setup a progressive throttle control so from 40% throttle to 100% throttle it's about 140kpa to 175kpa target with a duty cycle table backing it up to get it close enough that the closed loop PID does the rest. Max duty is around 43% but it's staged so way off target the controller gives 90% duty to get it to spool. I've got the control set to only kick in from 2500rpm and the target table picks up only after 3K so I don't nail the rods at lower revs. PID Guide here in case anyone cares : trull.org/alex/src/ecu_maps/PID%20Guide.txt

Though if you need to stop to plot, fix a puncture, have a cup of tea etc, then you might need to go a bit faster than 30 mph to catch up....

Hoping to fit the MeisterR suspension in the gap between rallies soon!

Fitted a dandak sequential 3rd brake light to the turbo car. It's bright and is configured to do 3 flashes before going solid. Seems to be really well made, too.
Now I need to get new seals since mine appears to be the 1989 one and it's properly failed, doubt even coconut oil would bring it back.
