It does at least look shiny from a distance, but it all falls apart when you get up close lol Great thing about my yellow one, it always looks shiny! Even when I haven't cleaned it in months! In fact even today, the sun shining off it reflecting on road signs! I hate you lol Mine needs a complete respray, I have decided - it's already a couple of different shades of red, and the paint coming off is not a good sign!

just ordered a slave cylinder for Bambi...by the end of the week i shall have learned how to do a clutch slave cylinder change and clutch and brake fluid swap Clutch slave is easy, just make sure you have the right sized brake fitting spanner (10mm iirc). Otherwise you'll probably just round the nuts, and no one likes round nuts. Halfrauds do proper ones - basically jaws about 8mm thick and open only sufficient to allow it to slide onto the union over the brake pipe. Try spraying pipe and union with penetrating oil some hours before, then a quick tighten if it'll allow it then undo. HTH. Cheers, Pewe.

Today I made a decision on which exhaust to get, woo! Only been about 3 months and a few hundred Hz of hearing loss... lol And I think I've decided to get some Roddisons pads to replace the current ones, which are useless when cold (but at least consistent when warm), in the hope that I might be able to stop if a kid runs out in front of me. If I'm doing pads, I might as well just do disks as well - do I recall correctly that just cheap and cheerful pattern parts are fine? Any recommendations for sources?

no shame in having a set of earplugs in your car. ^^ Fear not, they are most definitely in the car! Got a foam set which are pretty good as they still let some through, so good for traffic with filtering motorbikes and annoying cyclists lol, and also have a set of Mack's that are 32dB reduction - they are almost too good, I can't hear prarrie canoe when they are in and fully sealed lol Take them out when you are on your road and almost home and the amount of extra noise from even just birds singing is almost overwhelming!

Yearly MOT fail on emissions complete! To celebrate I shall be spending the rest of my day off rolling around on the wet floor and cursing a lot. After I have finished doing that I should probably order ANOTHER substandard aftermarket cat to fit...I have a pile of old ones now if anyone wants to weld them into some sort of climate change statement sculpture piece.

...aaand I need a new exhaust. Just started taking the cat off and realised the source of the weird rattling sound and also generally fumey, uncouth disposition of the beast earlier today was in fact the back part of the catback bashing against the front silencer as it reinserts itself endlessly due to the weld having rusted through cleanly all the way round.
GOOD EXHAUST RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE? RIGHT NOW! ANYBODY? Klarius OK but something shiny might be better...Next day delivery EVEN BETTER.

Cobalt from Moss Europe? MX5Parts exhaust? ILMotorsports exhaust from MX5Parts? Or something secondhand from someone like Autocheck or JunkYardDog on the other forum? Alternatively, GoPerform have just completed their prototype for the NA and it should be available now: www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=296577#entry3588425Or if you can wait 10 days or so, AK Automotive can ship you their Road (cat-back) or Race (downpipe back) system.

Hay problema. Turns out there are numerous Canoeing cat and exhaust sizes which ought to be simple enough to work out from VIN if if it weren't for the fact that my car is a frankenstein's monster of different generation bits and bobs all bonded together with silicon sealant and heartfelt love.
Somebody please tell me that all downpipe to cat lengths were the same on every model?
I thiiiink what has happened is that my car ought to have a long cat in order to replace what is currently there (short cat + some sort of shonkey scaff pole adaptor the last owner 'fabricated') which is a second hand exhaust of unknown age from mx5heaven or something which is probably one of whichever was most numerous for 1.8.
According to mx5parts however my car being pre 3082 VIN 96 means that it should have had a short cat at some point. Either way I have gone and ordered a long cat to hopefully replace the old cat + scaff pole so I suppose now I need the later, more expensive exhaust. Oh FFS. MUCH CONFUSING
