Just wanted to say that dealing with Cat Cams directly in Europe is a pleasure. Bofi stock their bits at reasonable prices also if you want to avoid import duty in the uk.

Aim for middle range of clearance.

Aim for middle range of clearance. 1st cycle I got 10/16 right on 2nd cycle I got 15/16 right on - so close but got confused at the end, running out of paper for notes and light and spare braincells. Just one last one to sort out and I'll be 0.01 +-1mm off the toda spec across all the valves. (0.20mm I 0.25mm E) It's been fun.

Hi Atlex, I did mine the lazy way. I gave the head and cams to a race engine builder. He supplied the lash caps and ground then to fit on a surface grinder. It saved me a lot of hassle.

oi dadbif tell us about your MR2 ? :-) Not much to tell at the moment, front end in bits, power steering hose leak to fix and the passenger wiper spindle is like a Spikey Canoe in a sleeve, looking for some oilite bushes to repair it. 2006 1.8 with hardtop and Tein twin exhausts. Bronze with red leather. The hood hadn’t been up for years, and was stiff as a board, but after copious amounts of vinyl treatment it’s back to normal.

Took the cams back out to put the lash caps on the 'more correct' way. The advice I had didn't take into account that I'd changed to the NB collets, which give enough clearance around the valve stem tip to have a 2.5mm shouldered lash cap. (actually there's 3.1mm of clearance, yay). I've retimed the crank and cams, fitted the maruha gears.. which look rather nice and will come in useful later. http://instagr.am/p/CXKBpGcgBBF

The Snappening. http://instagram.com/p/CXMBSu7AVGP Gave it 15 minutes of high idling and 1 minute of regular idling at the end (1.2K on this tune) The minute at the end was so I could get some hot idle AFR readings logged. It fired up first time after I let it cycle the old fuel in fuel rail out. I need to address some issues with the idler pulley now but it's looking rather good.

This was actually one of the quickest startups I ever had with this car after having it sit a long time. I was .. a bit shocked.

Is that a snap-off steering wheel setup I see before me? What is it / how do you find it (is there any play) / do you have the collapsable back part / etc. ?? It's a PITA getting in and out in winter when dressed up like a multi-layer fetishist so I'm thinking that not having a wheel to try to squeeze under could be very useful... Other than that, I'm afraid I've not kept up to speed with the thread but top work on the engine fiddling!
