Once a turbo has been fitted, im under the impression you can drive a car on the basemap to the rolling road for a proper setup.
Whats the best way to do this? Slow and steady? Properly limp the car around keeping the boost completely off?
Is there a guideline as to how car a car can go on the basemap? I'm quite a way from a rolling road, it would be a fair whack to go. I kinda know that it should be as little possible, but if its 20 miles i'll need a trailer, if its 200 miles I'll coax it there.
Also, the car is fitted with a wideband, which I understand to pre-warn me of things going wrong... what am I expecting to read on this as normal operation, what am I looking for or hoping it wont do, and generally how long before the warning and the destruction of the earth?
Basic questions for those in the know, but I've not had boost before so let me off...

Kinda depends what the supplier of the basemap meant by 'basemap'. Ideally a basemap would be safe and conservative so you can drive how you like and it will be down on power but won't come a cropper. Realistically I wouldn't do any full throttle runs, but nor would I panic about straying into boost a bit.
If you get into boost and your wideband tells you its somewhere in the range of roughly 13 down to 10 then you won't come to harm. If it's up in the mid 14s or above I would back off. Cruising along on mid 14's or even a bit higher is fine.

That gives me a bigger window than I was expecting, I was think I might have to drive like my mum does all the way to the rolling road, but now I can at least pull out of junctions safely... cheers!
The ecu is a ME221 so the basemap I imagine is the pre-installed one.

I'm not familiar with the ME221 software, but with Megasquirt you could put it in an autotune mode that would adjust your VE table to try and reach the target AFR. After a short blast on the motorway, it would be pretty dialled in.

Why not drive to the rolling road with the turbo not connected and the standard ecu installed, then just swap them over and fit the pipework back when you get there? Guaranteed safety
