Some while back, I initially investigated fitting a Coil On Plug System (COPS) for my 2001 1.8 Mk 2.5. At the time, I was told this was not possible and that I'd have to go to the non-S-VT engine.
Fast forward to last night and I came across a YouTube video of someone fitting a COPS system on a 1.8 S-VT engine installed in a Mk 1. He was using GM LS2 coils rather than Toyota ones. However, I'm struggling to see why this should make a difference. Basically, he ran 2 wires from the existing plug in the harness that is used for wasted spark (his car was using a1.8 S-VT engine harness) and ran 2 wires directly from his aftermarket ECU (Megasquirt) for the other 2 coils. OK, my car uses an Adaptronic ECU, however I'm guessing it can be wired, reprogrammed and made to run in this way ? Or am I missing something ?

No - you aren't missing anything.
I'm running Toyota coils with a VVT engine, previously with Adaptronic and currently with MS3. You can use the toyota coils without trimming the skirts, but they fit better doing so - it's literally 5 mins with a file, and you need to make a bracket up to retain them (although they fit fairly tightly anyway)
I'm still running wasted spark with pretty much standard wiring from the old coil plug back to the ECU...

Yes. Why shouldn't cops be possible? The mk2,5 already have cops afaik? Installing more powerful coils and/or converting to sequential shouldn't be harder than for any other year using an aftermarket ecu.
Check your ecu instructions for the pin out.

I just checked on the Skuzzle website. They offer a kit for COPS and specifically exclude the S-VT engine. Very strange . . . .

Very strange . . . . is that a pnp kit or 4 coils & some plugs for you to 'build' / wire etc.? as to making coils sequential, if your ecu has seperate cylinder / coil signal then it's an easy job to wire. for example; toyota yarris / denso coils have 4 wires, +12v live, 'earth', trigger / signal and a tacometer output. motorcycle denso coils have 2 wires, +12v live (as trigger) & earth. ^^ Sorta Rich.

Looking at how the bracket fits for the skuzzle kit, I don't think that it will fit on the VVT rocker cover as there's different mounting points in the plug well...
