I'm currently fitting my shifter, there are no instructions so it's entertaining making it up as I go along! Anyway, having spent too much time googling I have come to the conclusion that our only after market shifting solution is from China for cheap or the US for a lot. As I will be taking shared parental leave soon and will therefore have much time to kill, would there be any interest in me designing and producing a super simple bolt on short throw shifter? No multiple many parts thing that is hateful in every way but a simple rose jointed and quality item. Won't be cheap but I reckon it's possible for under 3 figures. Thoughts? Would be for Mk1 5 speed to start as that's what I have Edit: so design mk1 won't work as the gear lever will spin and I don't think that's so desirable! back to the drawing board...

I've got to be honest I don't see the point in a short shifter for an mx5. The throw is just right already.

My problem is short arms and long legs, so I'm trying to get a longer lever with the same throw. I used an extension for a little while which is much more comfortable (an angled one would be better though) but the throw is now very long. The quality of the eBay one is ok for the money but not great. I'd prefer something a bit nicer. Problem is while a rose jointed design is relatively straightforward, the fact that there's a ball on the end rather than a fork (such as the Ford Type 9) means that without the locating pin (or two in the case of the mk2) the whole thing will be able to rotate which is not ideal. Could be that there's no other viable way of doing it, which would explain why there's nothing nicer out there

Not far off... I'm 6'3" and have a 6' span, which doesn't sound like short arms but every inch matters!

I got the ebay short shifter and for the money its awsome, needed abit of modding as thw guide pin wouldnt fit into bush correctly but is a quick job to fix with an angle grinder and went straight in after it is a good shifter for the price !

Yeah I gave up in the end. Sticking with eBay short shifter, brass bush and extension. I have a heavy joyfast knob so it feels pretty good š
