So some of you will have had an email from the MSA about the changes to regs This one for HillClimbs and Sprints seems to suggest that Mk1 mx5s (and pre 2000 mk2s) will not be roadgoing production sports cars
11.9.1.1. Road-Going Series Production Cars – Saloons and Sports Cars produced in quantities of not less than 5000 per annum of unitary ferrous construction, two wheel drive and up to 2litre engine capacity. The cars must be manufactured after 1st January 2000 and be type approved. Any replacement components fitted must be a Standard Part/Standard Pattern Part.
Perhaps I'm reading it wrong!

That seems odd! Need to refresh my memory on 11.9 in total to see how this applies.

Aha! It's regulations for those entering the "Standard cars" class, not all classes.
I know the reason why. Safety. THey want to have it as a good starter class but want people running standard cars to be safe. Post 2000 stuff will have seatbelt pretensioners and airbags coming out of their ears.
It won't kill the standard MX5 sprinting though. Organisers can still run an MX5 only class and stipulate their modification requirements. Essentially you'd have:
Standard cars up to 1800cc post 200 year model MX5 class up to 1800cc * see suplimentary regs
or something like that.

Standard class is a new thing they are bringing it where you don't need the safety gear (excepting a helmet) and can run sprints in your daily driver at lower cost of entry, the class has quite a few limitations.

Cheers chaps, that all makes sense. As long as they are still running the MX5 class at Gurston i'll be happy!
