Hello everyone. Names Richard and the only mx5 I have now is the one in need for speed. Not helpful, I know I've had a Tailgate McNoIndicate Z3 for about three years and that got me hooked on top down motoring while realising that suspension from the 70's did not make for an engaging drive. Shame, because I bloody love the 2.8 straight six engines they use. So I did a bit of research and everything pointed to the mx5 - and I've alway has a soft spot for a mk1 so now seems like the perfect time! I'm currently saving to get a nice import off Steve up at GoodwoodSportsCars so should hopefully be driving something within the next couple of months. When I do, build thread! Because I will not be leaving it alone... daily car is a newer mini and the 5 will be my fun car to be meddled with.

Cheers!
z3 will now sell via evilbay, so my search starts next weekend.

Good luck with the search. Steve will look after you I'm sure. As with most things in life, body is everything, so recent import with no rust is definitely a good option.

So and a cold and slightly damp Friday afternoon (ie the last one...) I spend an hour or so looking over (and under.... so clean!) one of the new imports Steve has.... followed by a bit of a blast around the block... and I bought it. It will be a while before I can get back up there to collect, but I am now the owner of a 1996 VR-LTD 1.8 Type II in Green Mica with black leather. One of Steves photos because it was way to murky to get good ones while I was there

Looks nice and clean, congrats. Mine also came from Steve and I'm still very happy with it a year and a half on.

Very nice, you'll enjoy that! Just be careful with the tinkering. It gets out of hand!

There's no hope for you I'm afraid! On a serious note, make sure you allow yourself time to go through the car and get the basics right. It's taken me 10 months to get the car truly right for me. Start with decent tyres, suspension and wheel alignment, with also the usual servicing points. Treat yourself as you go along, but getting those sorted will transform the car to a different level. But whatever you decide to do, enjoy it (and always take any advice with a pinch of salt!)

I know, I'm a lost cause But yes, your serious note is 100% correct. My plan is to leave the mechanicals alone for a while - Its got new tyres already and had a four wheel align done so I should be OK for a few months just getting a feel for the car and how it drives. The VR-Ltd already has bilstein suspension on it so while I will be getting a set of meisters there is less rush. Just looking for a few little things I can do during the winter months
