Just to make things clear, I'm no fan of football but I just found it shocking that a governing body can be so short sighted.
The Poppy is for us has always been the mark of respect to those that serve our country. Its not political or any such like statement.
The Poppy was chosen because it was generally the first flowering plant to bloom in the otherwise scared landscape of warring nations.
Shameful.

i'm sure it's possible to honour war dead during a sporting occasion that doesn't involve the people in it wearing something when told they shouldn't
like the minute's silence before the match?
storm in a tea cup as far as i'm concerned

If anyone cant understand the value of the poppy on armistice day should maybe ask why before they refer to it as a "storm in a tea cup"

the poppy has great value...it just doesn't HAVE to be worn by people kicking a football in order to properly honour our war dead
i'm sure the vast majority of people in the crowd would have been wearing them, for instance
can we try keeping threads away from politics please? This is Mighty5s, not Nutz. We're here for having fun with MX5s
locking the thread

Just to add my two pennies worth.
Corders did the right thing locking the thread. Not because it got out of hand or anyone said anything they shouldn't as such, it's just these threads often spiral out of control fairly quickly.
Mighty5s is a place I want to keep light hearted and fun. I also want people to be able to use the off topic sections to discuss current affairs or whatever they like. It's just some subjects can become very emotive and these kinds of subjects will occasionally be judged as not suitable for discussion on here.
Anyone who knows me knows am I not Mr PC but politics, sex and religion (and this case poppies) are all things best left at the door.
Well maybe not sex. Lol.
Nick
