Who's gearing up for the last minute shop? I bet theres at least one person on here that's going to attempt it all on Saturday...
Braver than me, I've done the last minute thing before and it sucks. I still went on a shopping trip rather than done everything online, mostly to try and convince the staff at Victoria secret to try things on for me to see what it looks like (fail every year), but now I've just got the wrapping to go.

I like Christmas Eve shopping, Bluewater is generally empty so I can whizz around and buy all the things I want my family to return on Boxing Day

Last minute shopping is too stressful when you've left it late because you have no ideas, but on teh other hand I do love the arrival of Click & Collect. You can leave it too late for reliable delivery and still be sure you'll get what you want. It's an unalloyed Good Thing.
The real trouble with Christmas presents is that anything I actually want is either far too expensive or much too mundane to make a suitable gift.
Heard a bit on the radio suggesting that maybe 20% of what we spend on Christmas gifts is wasted on books/music/movies the recipient has already got or stupid tat that nobody would ever buy for themselves. Years ago I told the family only to get consumable gifts - stuff I could use up and then throw away - because otherwise you just become the prisoner of unwanted stuff you feel morally obliged to keep.

All about the random tat you feel you need to hold onto
Im a big one for toiletries...when i was kayaking 6 days a week having a supply of shower jel actually came in handy!
Managed to complete all my shopping today courtesy of a 2 week festive shutdown at work . If it wasnt for that, i am.a great fan of the last minute dash around town

Theres definitely a difference between presents and gifts, the way I see it, presents are something that you know the person would buy themselves or something they really want but cannot justify for whatever reason, gifts are things you think they will like based on their interests.
I find that if I m buying in advance I can get presents for people and if its last minute I end up getting gifts for people, and then feel that when I get gifts from others they have been in the same boat or not really cared/thought about it.

Work in the construction industry...big enough companies get crates of beer given to them from sub contractors

Does that still go on in your neck of the woods? We used to get all kinds of nice little gifts from suppliers, posh chocolates and wine, but that got stamped out many years ago. Absolutely forbidden to accept a gift that might be seen as an inducement.

I like the delegation part. Good move
There is a fine line between a thank you present for employing aubcontractors on site and a bung...but for instance j wouldnt expect anything from material suppliers. Just those working with us during the festive period

I was going to give our bin men a tenner until they took all the polystyrene out of the recycling bin (fair enough) and chucked it across my front garden (not fair enough)...
... and then felt please when I didn't after they didn't take the black bags that were next to the non-recycling bin yesterday that wouldn't fit in because it was full of polystyrene.
They haven't taken my neighbors bin for 3 weeks now because the contents of the bin are in a bag and they wont take it until she tip s the bag into the bin and then puts the bag into the same bin seperately. Their recycling bin, the week before xmas too...
ffs!
