This is a list of specialist insurers of whom our members have experience. I will endeavour to keep the below list updated with your comments and experience. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will grow over time. This is also not a list of who got what quote.

A-Plan
- No track day cover
- Knowledgeable staff
- Can arrange UK and continental breakdown cover up to the value of the car

Adrian Flux / Herts Insurance Company
- Worth getting a quote from both as they do differ despite being the same company
- Will cover under 25s
- HIC required use of another car

Admiral
- One of the few main players to offer reasonable quotes on modified and imported cars, but staff not so knowledgeable from experience
- Offers a classic policy discount (circa 20%) with agreed valuation and accrues NCB [most classic policies do not accrue NCB]
- Accelerated NCB accrual for first time / young drivers

Brent Acre
- No charges for additional mods, simply send them an email with your new changes
- Responsive to emails
- Knowledgeable staff

Classicline
- Breakdown cover included
- Free cover for non-power mods
- Very reasonable but more suitable for limited mileage

Footman James
- Quote very competitive compared to others
- Specify a guaranteed vehice value

Greenlight
- Require 1 year NCB to be available
- Minimum age 21
- Will take in to account experience
- Best to telephone
- Like for like cover on modifications
- Staff know their cars
- Won't cover children on a parent's policy
- Unlimited mods for no extra premium (150bhp cap, rising to 180bhp after a year for some makes and models, 180bhp from the start for others).
- Limited mileage discount
- Club discounts available
- Don't insure BMWs

Grove & Dean / Performance Direct
- Offer classic, import and modified insurance

Highway Insurance
- Previous poor experience; now owned by LV so may improve

Lancaster

Sky Insurance
- Knowledgeable staff
- Very responsive, easy to get hold of
- Apparently don't like Manchester!

Greenlight is technically a broker who puts driver and insurer together

I think Adrian Flux and Sky are at least two others that are brokers?

IME the cheapest insurance is usually achieved by using Highway Insurance - previously I've had a poor experience with them but they have apparently been bought out by LV so are now part of that group. Following my 'incident' with my neighbour trying to remove my front end earlier this year, I need to wait and see how much they want to screw me over on renewal. I also don't know what they are like to claim off of - I'd have to ask my neighbour about that, but as he now doesn't want to talk to me... lol

Brentacre - I was with them last year. (Couldn't beat Adrian flux this time round)
No charges for mods, you can literally send them an email with your new changes, no need to even call them. I found this particularly useful as I don't like talking on the phone!
They also seemed to know there stuff when I did have to talk to them.

I was sure I added brokers in one of my many edits dammit! Stupid Mac. Editing now... thanks for pointing it out. Will add in Highway too.

One thing I need particularly from younger peeps is minimum ages, if you have them!

Admiral also offer a classic car discount scheme. I think it's about 20% off the price of a standard policy. It's still a usual policy and you accrue NCB etc, just you get a nice discount and agreed valuation etc. Obviously a market they're trying to tap into.

I'm with Classicline, have been for almost four years and haven't found anyone cheaper on my mk1 or mk2. Breakdown cover is included and non-power related mods are all free, which is nice

Only suitable for limited mileage/second vehicle use though.

Jack I told you ages ago to call greenlight. They're really good. Been with them for last 3 years and although never having to make a claim, they seem really good and Dan is very helpful. He even convinced me to get a turbo haha

Admiral are good for first time / young drivers, and have an accelerated NCB scheme (I think you get 1 year NCB for 10 months insurance).

Modifications are very limited though, trying to describe fitting ITBs to them resulted in me just agreeing it was an "air intake modification".

Greenlight are very responsive via email as well. My policy with them was though Markerstudy.
