So at the RR day at Skuzzle my car made 109WHP which is not bad but i would have expected a tad more with some of the work Ive done so jackyboy made a suggestion that his actually improved when he removed the decat and went back to the cat. So this morning - cos i was bored, i whipped the decat off and the cat back on as a test - it is certainly no worse and discovering that the decat was blowing at the joins it is probably better. the sound is not as raucous but tbh it was getting a bit much on long drives with the roof down! So cheers Jack - good idea mate! Next thing is to get back to Skuzzle and get the optimum timing set on the dyno as suggested by Horney the boss. Ive always thought that setting it at 14 was a bit hit and miss considering I have had the head skimmed which will affect the timing, I might try to get back to Skuzzle before the Autosolo on the 19th. I will report back This goes to show that getting together at meets like this with like-minded people is a great way to share ideas as well as a good laugh

It was bizarre to see 109 up to 120whp with re catting. And i have a blow between the down pipe and the cat too!
I was scratching my head about it last night. i think the weather was a beneficial factor yesterday. Must have been more than 10 degrees less than it was last may! Would that make 11 horse power though!! Maybe the autosilicon cone filter heat shield and filter made more power?.
14 degrees with mine too i could tell by your intake sucking away lovely at idle like mine. Love that.
Theory with re catting is regaining back pressure. Discussed it with tommy b yesterday and he said de cats are only really needed on fi cars.

Or maybe even the car was strapped down more this time or Nick had a different setting on the dyno? I really dont know.
Either way. Its on paper. Its a gain.! Whoop whoop lol

Seriously mulling over this. Wish i could just put it on the rolling road on the same day within the same hour.. I have watched videos back from a cold day at combe last November and the car is rapid on the speedo compared to footage i looked at from spring action day.. Hmmm

I've put the cat back on mine. I have no idea if it makes more power or not, but I just didn't like the noise.
I'm not a 17 year old in a Corsa at McDonald's car park any more!

We found this on the R53 Minis too. Standard cat was miles better than decat and any of the expensive sports cats. Standard procedure was to buy a 4-2-1 or 4-1 Mani and then get the standard cat welded on.

This thread is the reason I've decided to buy a new CAT rather than get a decat - also I then don't have the issue of trying to convince MOT testers that you don't need a CAT on a 95' roadster.
